Grade 2 Social Studies

In this unit, students will explore the different roles people play within a community while examining democratic principles and values. Students will analyze how these principles and values shape the ways people contribute to society and make a difference. Through this work, students will also build the foundation for a classroom community where everyone feels included, respected, and able to learn.

In this unit, students will use maps to develop a deeper understanding of their own community, including important places, landmarks, and monuments in town. Students will also explore their relationship with the environment by learning about natural resources and why it is important to protect them. Students will examine how groups of people respond to natural disasters, such as floods, hurricanes, and blizzards, and consider how communities work together during these events.

In this unit, students will explore the impact of people from the past and present. Students will learn about historical figures and explain how their lives are different because of these individuals’ contributions. Students will also examine how technology, including social media, has changed the ways people communicate, learn, and share their points of view.
