In this unit, students will strengthen their understanding of multi-digit whole numbers through place value, comparison, rounding, addition, and subtraction. Students will read and write numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form, identify the value of digits based on their place, and compare multi-digit numbers using symbols. Students will also round whole numbers to any place and use place-value strategies and standard algorithms to add and subtract numbers up to 999,999. Through real-world math tasks, students will estimate, check for reasonableness, interpret information in tables, and build fluency with multi-digit computation.
In this unit, students will deepen their understanding of multiplication and division by exploring multiplicative comparison, factors, multiples, patterns, and multi-step problem solving. Students will use equations, drawings, and symbols to represent and solve multiplication and division word problems, including problems with unknown numbers and remainders. Students will also identify factor pairs, multiples, prime and composite numbers, and extend number and shape patterns using rules. Through real-world math tasks, students will strengthen algebraic thinking, build fluency with multiplication and division facts, and use estimation to check whether answers are reasonable.
In this unit, students will strengthen their understanding of multi-digit multiplication, division, measurement conversions, perimeter, and area. Students will multiply whole numbers by one- and two-digit numbers using arrays, area models, partial products, and estimation to check for reasonableness. Students will also divide three- and four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers using area models, partial quotients, place value, and the relationship between multiplication and division. In measurement, students will convert units within the same measurement system and use formulas to find the perimeter and area of rectangles. Through real-world math tasks, students will solve problems, interpret remainders, and build fluency with multi-digit operations.
In this unit, students will build a deeper understanding of fractions, decimals, and measurement. Students will use models, number lines, and equations to find equivalent fractions, compare fractions, add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators, and multiply fractions by whole numbers. Students will also connect fractions to decimals by working with tenths and hundredths, writing fractions as decimals, and comparing decimals. Through line plots and real-world word problems involving time, money, length, liquid volume, mass, and weight, students will strengthen their ability to solve problems, convert measurements, and explain their mathematical thinking.
In this unit, students will explore geometry and measurement by learning about points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, two-dimensional figures, and symmetry. Students will identify, draw, measure, and classify angles, including acute, right, and obtuse angles, and use protractors to measure and draw angles. Students will also add and subtract angle measures, identify parallel and perpendicular lines, classify triangles and other two-dimensional figures based on their properties, and recognize and draw lines of symmetry. Through real-world math tasks, students will apply geometric vocabulary, classify shapes, solve angle problems, and strengthen spatial reasoning.
