In this unit, students will strengthen their understanding of three-digit numbers by focusing on place value, rounding, addition, and subtraction. Students will learn to round two- and three-digit numbers to the nearest ten and three-digit numbers to the nearest hundred. Students will also use a variety of strategies to add and subtract three-digit numbers, including estimating, regrouping, and applying place value understanding. Through problem-solving and real-world math tasks, students will compare numbers, estimate sums, solve multi-step problems, and build fluency with addition and subtraction within 1,000.
In this unit, students will build an understanding of multiplication and division by exploring equal groups, arrays, repeated addition, skip-counting, and fact families. Students will learn multiplication facts for 0–10, use properties such as the commutative, associative, and distributive properties, and apply place value to multiply by multiples of 10. Students will also learn the meaning of division, connect multiplication and division, find unknown numbers in equations, and solve word problems. Through patterns, models, and real-world math tasks, students will strengthen fluency with multiplication and division facts within 100.
In this unit, students will deepen their understanding of multiplication by applying it to area, word problems, and data displays. Students will learn what area is, measure area using square units, and use multiplication to find the area of rectangles. Students will also decompose shapes into rectangles, add areas to find total area, and use multiplication and division to solve one- and two-step word problems. Through scaled picture graphs, scaled bar graphs, tables, and real-world math tasks, students will interpret data, solve problems, and strengthen their ability to represent mathematical thinking with models and equations.
In this unit, students will build a strong understanding of fractions as numbers. Students will learn that fractions represent equal parts of a whole, identify numerators and denominators, and use unit fractions as building blocks for understanding larger fractions. Students will represent fractions with models and number lines, find and explain equivalent fractions, and compare fractions using models, number lines, and comparison symbols. Students will also measure lengths to the nearest half inch and quarter inch, display measurement data on line plots, and answer questions using data. Through real-world math tasks, students will strengthen their ability to reason about fractions, measurement, and data.
In this unit, students will learn how to measure and solve problems involving time, liquid volume, and mass. Students will tell and write time to the nearest minute, connect analog and digital clocks, understand a.m. and p.m., and solve word problems involving elapsed time. Students will also estimate and measure liquid volume using liters and mass using grams and kilograms. Through real-world math tasks, students will add, subtract, compare, and estimate measurements while strengthening problem-solving skills with time, liters, grams, and kilograms.
