AP Research

In this unit, students are introduced to the course description and goals, and the gap from AP Seminar is bridged.  Additionally, students continue to explore topics from their summer work.  Students will create QUEST Presentations that break down the essential components of each learning objective.  They will be introduced to the PREP journal and will organize and reflect on their summer work. Using work from AP Seminar, they will compare and contrast their IWA from AP Seminar to a sample paper in AP Research. 

In this unit, students will review their research from the summer and apply the CRAP test to their work.  Students solidify their questions and prepare for submission to the Review Board through finalizing their Questioning piece of the QUEST model. Students review the Plagiarism Policy from College Board. 

In this unit, students will work together to learn the research methods that they can use in their proposal.  Additionally, they spend time continuing their research and deciding on the best citation method based on their question and research. All students submit their proposals to the IRB Board. 

In this unit, students will create their literature review, peer edit, meet with their expert, and continue to add to their research. 

In this unit, students will synthesize and craft their Inquiry Proposal through discussions with experts and peers and finalize their Forms. 

In this unit, students will conduct their individual data on their own research.  Activities will be related to specific research methods, data collection, and analysis to the group as needed for support.

In this unit, students will complete their presentation and oral defense. Students will review sample student presentations, preparation of oral presentations, peer presentation practice, and peer-reviewed oral defense question practice.

In this unit, students will prepare a final research proposal poster and participate in a poster presentation to administration, experts, and teachers. Students will prepare a PREP reflection that discusses how their research contributes to the work of the larger research community. AP Research students will consult with the AP Seminar students according to their disciplinary interests to offer tips and suggestions on the research process, summer research assignments, findings, and communicating with experts, etc.
