In this unit, students will develop drawing skills by observing objects from life and translating them to paper and using a choice of stippling, cross-hatching or blending to create value.

In this unit, students will learn how to look at a landscape/cityscape/building, or architecture and be able to translate it realistically on a 2D surface.  

In this unit, students will create a series of observational drawings of found objects and use repetition and movement to create a mixed-media composition.

In this unit, students will explore alternative ways to capture images (such as cyanotype, gelli prints, and photo transfers) to create an aesthetically pleasing composition.

In this unit, students will explore how artists use text in their compositions.  Students will then decide how to explore text as a tangible element in their own compositions. 

In this unit, students will create a composition of themselves after they have explored how artists over time have explored identity.  

In this unit, students will exercise their imagination and creativity by using automatic writing or a random word selector to create a work of art that explores the chosen ideas.

In this unit, students will learn how to stretch and prepare a canvas.  Students will then create a large-scale painting that explores extreme perspective or the idea of foreshortening of an image they photographed.   

In this unit, students will explore gesture and contour drawing using peers as models.

In this unit, students will learn how to create a sketchbook of their own using a basic Japanese book-binding technique.
