Painting 1

In this unit, students will learn the basics of painting, including different types of media, styles, and methods. Students will practice the Elements of Art and how these skills affect the success of painting projects throughout the semester. 

In this unit, students will learn about Color Theory and explore different ways that colors can be used in painting. Students will learn how to use the Color Wheel as a tool. 

In this unit, students will learn the Principles of Design to further support the four steps of art criticism: describe, analyze, interpret, and judge. Students will learn about composition using both Elements of Art and Principles of Design for their paintings.  

In this unit, students will learn about the characteristics of watercolor paints. This will include traditional and contemporary methods of using watercolor paints in creating. Students will experience different processes for using watercolor paint. 

In this unit, students will learn about the features of a landscape. This will include viewing traditional and contemporary landscape styles. Students will experience different painting techniques for creating landscapes. 

In this unit, students will reflect on their artwork from the semester and identify an area for improvement or growth. Students will plan and create a final project that demonstrates stronger skills, revised techniques, or new learning. Students will document their progress through sketches, photographs, and written reflections in their portfolios.
