Drawing 1

In this unit, students will learn the basics of drawing, including different types of media, styles, and methods. Students will practice the Elements of Art and how these skills affect the success of drawing projects throughout the semester. 

In this unit, students will learn the Principles of Design to further support the four steps of art criticism: describe, analyze, interpret, and judge. Students will learn about Optical Illusions (Op Art) using both Elements of Art and Principles of Design. 

In this unit, students will learn about perspective in drawing. Students will develop their skills in using a vanishing point and creating depth in their drawing. 

In this unit, students will learn about the characteristics of printmaking. This will include additive and subtractive methods in creating printing plates. Students will experience the printmaking process through different techniques. 

In this unit, students will learn about the features of the face. This will include viewing traditional and contemporary styles of portraits. Students will experience different drawing techniques of portrait drawing. 

In this unit, students will reflect on their artwork from the semester and identify an area for improvement or growth. Students will plan and create a final project that demonstrates stronger skills, revised techniques, or new learning. Students will document their progress through sketches, photographs, and written reflections in their portfolios.
