PHS' Ceramics Teacher: Mrs. Erwin

Once in a while, Pioneer High School is able to introduce new teachers into our district. This year we were lucky enough to present Mrs. Erwin into our art department, more specifically in ceramics. We were given the opportunity to interview Mrs. Erwin and were able to learn a few things about her.

She started her college education at Solano Community College and then later transferred to Humboldt State University that is located up north to which she describes as “very pretty.” Many people take quite a while to choose their career path in life, but for Mrs. Erwin, her interest in teaching came very easily. According to Mrs. Erwin, she once tutored some classmates in college and her college professor realized she would “make a good teacher” and from then on she seeked out to become an educator. In addition to being a teacher, she has come to really enjoy history and because of that has been considering getting another credential in art history.

When she was younger she attended Dixon High School and surprisingly the same architect that built Dixon High School built Pioneer High School so the campuses looked identical to her. Mrs. Erwin told us that when she first walked onto the Pioneer campus she had to do a “double take” to make sure she hadn’t ended up at Dixon High School by accident.

I had the honor of getting Mr. Erwin this year as my ceramics teacher and I’d say her greatest strengths would be keeping the rules in place. She has really made the environment in her class a very safe space for students to enjoy themselves and have fun which I think makes her a great teacher for us Patriots.
