She lost her life on December 23, 2015 in a tragic car accident. During her life time - she sought to impact all those she encountered positively. The HEARTT group asks that you stop by the auditorium lobby and grab a marker and write your notes of encouragement to fellow lions on the posters hanging up. You can make a difference with kindness.​

The Student Senate is having its first Volleyball tournament of the school year on Thursday, November 8th at 630 pm. The cost is $30 for a team of six players ($5 per student) The tournament is double elimination with the winning team receiving a $50 Buffalo Wild Wings Gift card, and of course, the coveted Champions t-shirt. The Girls Swim team competed in the league 3 championships. All League honors were made by members of the 200 medley relay; Jamie McEnaney, Karalynn Cantwell, Jackie Triglia and Jaclyn Citarella.

A highlight of the night was tenth grader Jackie Triglia; Jackie broke two West Islip high school team records.

The 200 Individual Medley, held by Bridget Whalen (2:14.94) was surpassed when Jackie swam it in 2:13.71. Jackie also swam 100 butterfly in 58.27 taking the school record formerly held by Lauren Afflixio (59.15).

Yesterday The Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated Deer Park in the first round of the Suffolk County playoffs by the score of 2 to 0. Goals were scored by Jessica Memoli and Melanie Klein with both assists coming from Jillian Caroselli. The defense turned in a solid effort providing the 10th shutout of the season great job girls. The Boys Cross Country Team faced Bellport and Deer Park at a tri meet yesterday at Sunken Meadow. Despite taken second overall, 25 of the 27 runners got their best time of the season. The overall first place finisher of the meet was Andrew Paules. The 2nd and 3rd place finishers were James Cameron and Paul Folks. It was an overall outstanding performance by the entire team.

All students wishing to join Thirst Project this year must join the Google Classroom and fill out the Google form by Tuesday Sept 18th. Even if you cannot attend meetings until after fall sports, you must fill out the information required by tomorrow.

This year’s first meeting of the West Islip Travel Society will be held on Thursday, September 20, after school in room 209. There will be a parent meeting on Wednesday, September 26. We are going to visit the country of Belize over the April vacation in 2019. This trip is open to any student in the high school, as well as their families. There are just a few spots left for students who would like to travel with us to this beautiful country in Central America. We will be snorkeling with sharks, zip-lining, white water rafting and much more. Please be advised - There is a discount for those who sign up before October first. Anyone who likes to travel or who is interested in seeing other cultures, please come to the meeting on Sept. 20th or see Mr. O’Hare in room 221.

On Saturday, the Girls Cross Country Team competed in the Lady Vikings Invitational. Great races were run by the team.

The ​Boys Cross Country Team competed at the Regis Invitational this weekend. Overall, it was a solid job by the team.

The Varsity Girls Gymnastics Team opened up their season with two non-league wins last week. The girls came out strong with a 149-129 win over Kings Park and a 124-159 win over Hauppauge.

Congratulations to the Girls JV Soccer Team on their 2-0 win against Connetquot on Saturday.. Great job by all! Come support the lady lions as they take on Sachem North at home today.

Attention all students trying out for a winter sport: The winter sport signups are taking place in your PE classes until Friday 9/28. The pink signup cards are outside of both locker rooms. The winter sports are: Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Swimming and Diving, Boys and Girls Bowling, Competitive Cheer, Kickline, Boys and Girls Winter Track. ALL athletes must sign up, whether or not you were on the team in previous seasons, or if you're trying out. If you have any questions, see your PE teacher during your PE class.

On September 24 -- several HEARTT students will be attending NY state Mentor training. The Girls JV Field Hockey Team extended their record to 3-0 with a 3-1 win over Lindenhurst yesterday. Goals were scored by both Mia Brandenstein and Cristina Pascarella. Great job ladies!

The West Islip Junior Varsity Football Team opened the season with an impressive 41-6 victory last Saturday against Bellport High School. The Lions defense were led by Jimmy Takas with 8 tackles. Two of the tackles were for a loss, and Nick Aliani with 5 tackles. Nolan Walters blocked a punt which led to score on the Lions next possession. The Lions offense was led by Ryan Behrens and Liam Schweers. Each had 2 rushing touchdowns. A great game was played by all the players.
