The Girls Varsity Volleyball team defeated Smithtown West yesterday three games to two. Emma Graziano led the team with 24 kills and 4 aces. Emily Rush and Emily Fischer both added 7 kills and 2 blocks. Lily Loveland had 23 digs.

The West Islip Varsity Gymnastics Team competed against East Islip scoring a 170.4 for the win! Amazing job to all the girls on the team! Next competition is away against Connetquot on Monday, September 28th at 5pm. Great job Lions! Positive vibes only!

Yesterday the boys, soccer team defeated Westhampton, 3–1. Trailing 1-0, Quinn Butler scored the tying goal (his first varsity goal) off a flick from Edenilson Nunez. With the score tied at one, Edenilson Nunez put the Lions ahead 2-1 off a cross from Preston Nutter 8 minutes into the second half. Kolton Heyman scored his first varsity goal and sealed the victory by converting a feed from Joe Ismail with roughly 4 minutes left in the game making it 3-1. The boys play at home tomorrow at 4:30 PM against Comsewogue. Please come out and support the boys as it is a pivotal matchup for them. Go Lions!

The yearbook club will be meeting today, immediately after school in the library media center. All are welcome.

On September 15, the West Islip Gymnastics Team competed against Half Hollow Hills and won with a 166.525 to 133.1. West Islip swept the podium on all events. On vault, in 3rd place came Kayla Scandura, followed by Emily Ball in second place and Anna Hall for first with an 8.9. On bars, in 3rd place Anna Hall, in 2nd place Kayla Scandura, and Emily Ball came in first place with an 8.05. On balance beam, Ava Bomberger placing 3rd, followed by Juliet LeClaire for 2nd place, then Anna Hall for first place with an outstanding 9.0 routine. On floor, in third place is Zoey Richardelli, followed by Kristen Messina in 2nd place, and taking first place was Emily Ball with a 9.1. Great job girls! Next meet is this Thursday at home in the upper gym.

The Girls' J.V. Field Hockey Team won their first game against Comsewogue in record fashion. The team won 2-1 after a shootout. The Lions scored in the third period to take a 1-0 lead with a quick shot by Vanessa Sutkowski. Comsewogue scored in the 4th Period to tie the game. Goals in the shootout were scored by Vanessa Sutkowski, Adrianna Capezza, and Jesse Shannon. Bella Chillianis recorded 10 saves in goal for the Lions.

Fall Driver Education lecture and driving rosters have been finalized. All students who registered for FALL Driver Education will need to check the rosters displayed on the DE website, the Fall REMIND APP or in the DE showcase next to the main office to see which session you have been assigned. Driving sessions begin Monday, September 14 and daily according to your assigned day & time….and the first lecture class is tomorrow, September 15. The NYS DMV requires all students to attend all 16 assigned lecture classes and all 16 assigned driving sessions.

Yesterday, the boys, soccer team defeated Eastport - South Manor 3-0 on Senior Recognition Night. Ben Boily scored his first varsity goal in the first half to make the score 1-0. Nilson Nunez and Charlie Basini each scored in the second half to make the score 3-0. In addition to scoring, Charlie Basini set up the first two goals of the game, while Quinn Butler earned his first varsity assist on the last goal of the game. Michael Tumminello earned his first varsity shutout in goal. Lastly, the boys play on the road tomorrow at Smithtown West at 3:30 pm.

The Girls Varsity Tennis Team defeated Islip on Tuesday 4-3.

Winning for the Lions were Julia Evangeliou, Shiloe Khokhar, Maya Sutkowski, Brianna Diaz and Brynn Ehlers

On September 8th 2026, the West Islip Varsity Gymnastics team competed against William Floyd in their first non-league competition. WI won with a total team score of 167.9 to 158.9. On vault, Anna Hall was first overall with a 9.35, followed by Kayla Scandura and Emily Ball with 8.3’s. On the uneven bars, Kayla Scandura came in second overall scoring an 8.3, and Emily Ball coming in third overall with an 8.175. On balance beam, Lena Okurkowski placed third overall scoring an 8.575. On floor, in 3rd place Kristen Messina scored a 9.1, in 2nd place Emily Ball scored a 9.2, and first place was Anna Hall with a 9.275. Incredible job girls! The next meet is our “squad meet” which will be home, this Friday on 9/11 starting at 4pm. Come support WIVG!

The baseball team won their first-round playoff game yesterday against Hills West 9 -3. Brian Brower pitched 6 innings giving up only 2 runs for the win, and Matt Tomasello threw the 7th to get the save. Antony Azzariti had a home-run, Chris Ruby also homered, Brian Brower had a RBI single, and Vance Kane added a 2 RBI double to pace the offense. The next game will be Friday, opponent and location TBD.

The Boys Varsity Tennis Team would like to congratulate the following players for qualifying for the conference 2 tournament.

Kevin Halloran, Tim Archacki, Ben Triglia, Tommy Albertelli, Dylan Carter , Nick Albertelli, Lucas Dosantos, Ryan Murray and Dan Murphy.

Brian Brower pitched 6 innings, giving up only 3 hits and no runs while striking out 6 in the baseball team's 3 - 0 win over East Islip on Tuesday. Connor Kenefick pitched the 7th to pick up the save. Ryan Gaffney and Anthony Azzariti each had a sacrifice fly RBI.

The Student Senate is holding a supply drive to help restock the shelves of our Essential Needs Pantry for families in our community. We’re looking for the basics that make a big difference: unopened toiletries, hygiene products, and non-perishable food items. What might feel like a small donation to you is a huge relief for a neighbor in need. Drop off your donations to either Mr. Jablonski in Room 208, or Mr. Moglia in Room 188. As an added bonus, each item you donate earns you a raffle ticket to our drawing on May 18th! We will be giving out several gift cards, including Amazon, Starbucks, and other local restaurants! Let’s show up for each other and ensure no one goes without the essentials.

The Boys JV Lacrosse team won their last game of the season 13-4 over Comsewogue. Gianni DeVivo led the offense with 4 goals and 4 assists. Sam Basini and Ronan King each scored 3 goals and Quinn Butler added 2 goals. Kyle Metkiff and Gavin Sandoval led the defense. Riley Scavo made 8 saves in goal. The boys ended the season with a 12-3 record.

The baseball team beat East Islip again yesterday to secure the League 4 championship. Connor Kenefick was his usual dominant self on the mound and at the plate. He pitched a complete game, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs while striking out 8. He also went 4 for 4 with an RBI. Will Delanoy homered and had 3 RBIs, Brian Brower had a double and an RBI, and Vance Kane and Ryan Gaffney added an RBI each. Matt Tomasello and Derek Kolman also had hits. The team goes for the series sweep on Friday.
