In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Day on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16th, we would like to collect a $5 donation from all staff members, district wide, teaching and non-teaching, for the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition for Long Island, Inc. Those staff members who donate five dollars will receive a “The Best Protection is Early Detection” Pen in memory of those who have suffered with breast cancer. Please see Nicole Perperis to make your donation, and as an additional sign of their commitment to help eradicate breast cancer, those personnel who donate are encouraged to wear jeans on Friday!

Attention IB and AP Students

This is a reminder that the initial payment deadline for May 2027 AP and IB exams is next Tuesday, October 20th.

To take an exam, you must pay in full or submit a deposit for at least one exam by October 20th using MySchoolBucks on the district website. If you are taking both AP and IB exams, a deposit is required for both programs.

Please ensure payments are made on time so your exams can be ordered. If you or your parents have any questions, please visit the main office or contact Mr. Gilmartin. Thank you, and have a great afternoon!

West Islip varsity gymnastics team remains undefeated with a 172.2–167.1 victory and an 8-0 record!

Anna Hall won vault with a 9.225 and balance beam with a 9.3, while placing second on floor with a 9.25.

Emily Ball won floor with a 9.35 and finished second on vault (9.15) and bars (8.65).

Kristen Messina placed third on bars with an 8.5, and Juliet LeClaire tied for third on beam with an 8.75.

West Islip’s next meet is away against West Babylon/Lindenhurst on Thursday, October 22. Let's keep up the positive vibes ladies!!! Let's go lions!!!

Yesterday, the Boys Soccer Team defeated Hills West 3-1. Charlie Basini (1 goal and 1 assist) opened the scoring by converting a rebound after a ball played by Nate Plouffe went off the crossbar. Nilson Nunez would score back-to-back goals less than 2 minutes apart in the second half to make the score 3-0 with roughly 25 minutes left in the game. The boys play under the lights tomorrow at 6:00 pm against Westhampton in their last home game during the regular season . Please come out and support the boys! Go Lions!

The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team defeated Smithtown West on Friday winning three games to two. The team was led by Emily “Cindy Lou- Who” Fisher and Emily “lefty” Rush who both had 9 kills and 1 block each. Penny “nickel dime” Knoop added 7 kills and 3 blocks. The last home game of the season will be on Wednesday at 4:30, come and support your girls volleyball team.

The West Islip Varsity Gymnastics Team set another HISTORIC team record competing against Harbor Fields scoring a 172.225! The girl's record is now 7-0 in league 1! Keep up the hard work and positive vibes! Let's go lions!!!!

Yesterday the Boys Soccer Team defeated Hauppauge 3-0. Goals were scored by Charlie Basini, Joe Ismail, and Sam Basini. The back four made up of Ben Boily, Nate Plouffe, Pat Albrecht, and Preston Nutter played great in the back once again, and helped preserve another shutout for the Lions. Lastly, Michael Tumminello had another great game in the goal to earn another shutout. The boys next game is at home next Tuesday against Hills West. Come out and support the boys! Go Lions!

Good luck to the Varsity Girls Tennis Team today as they compete against West Hampton in the first round of the Suffolk County team play-offs.

The Girls JV Field Hockey Team defeated Shoreham Wading River by a score of 3-1 at their Pink Game. Breaking the ice for the Lions was Kylie Lodato with an assist from Vanessa Sutkowski. Vanessa deflected another goal home on a pass from Lila Grim. In exciting fashion, Kylie scored her final goal on a buzzer beater off an excellent pass from Adrianna Capezza to end the half. Bella Chillianis was solid in goal and recorded 6 saves to secure the win. “Way to go Lions!

We are excited to announce that our Mount Snow Ski & Snowboard Trip has officially SOLD OUT! All spots were filled within just two hours of dismissal!

We’re looking forward to an incredible day on the mountain! If you are registered for the trip, please make sure you submit your completed permission slip to the Main Office as soon as possible.

And don’t worry if you missed out this time we’re already looking forward to releasing our next trip date! We hope to offer several ski and snowboard trips throughout the winter, so when you hear the next announcement, be sure to act fast!

We are excited to announce that our Mount Snow Ski & Snowboard Trip has officially SOLD OUT! All spots were filled within just two hours of dismissal!

Get ready to hit the slopes! West Islip High School Enrichment is heading to Mount Snow in Vermont on Saturday, December 5th!

We’ll be taking a private charter bus from WIHS to Mount Snow and back for a full day on the mountain.

Whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate skier or snowboarder, come join us for a great day of snow, friends, and fun and hopefully the first of many trips to come!

Spots are limited- only 45 students can attend!

Be on the lookout for registration information and permission slips. Don’t wait...once the 45 spots are filled, the trip is full!

On Friday, the boys soccer team defeated West Babylon 2-1. Sam Basini tied the game by converting a cross from Charlie Basini with roughly 19 minutes left in the game. Nearly 2 minutes later, Caio Baione scored the game winning goal off a feed by Charlie Basini. The boys play away at Eastport/South Manor today at 5 pm. Go Lions!

The Varsity Girls Volleyball defeated East Islip 3-0 yesterday. Emma “Big Mac” Taliercio-McNamara and Penny Knoop each had 6 kills and one block. Emily Rush added 4 kills for the

win.

The 2nd Panel Lecture of the West Islip Healthcare Careers Program is scheduled for Wednesday October 7th 3 - 5pm and will take place in the auditorium. The Girls Varsity Tennis Team defeated middle country on Tuesday 4-3.

Yesterday, the Boys Soccer Team defeated Smithtown West 1-0. Nilson Nunez headed in a cross from Preston Nutter with 7:45 left in the first half. The defense locked it down the rest of the way, and Michael Tumminello controlled the box in the second half to earn his 3rd shutout of the season. Great job boys!

Yesterday, the Boys Soccer Team defeated Comsewogue 1-0 in the first overtime when Charlie Basini scored a golden goal with 4:45 remaining off a cross from Kolton Heyman. The counter attacking goal started from the a Lions own end on a fast transition play that saw great passing from Nate Plouffe, Ben Boily, Joe Ismail, and Nilson Nunez who fed Heyman right before the cross. Michael Tumminello recorded the shutout. Lastly, the boys play first place Smithtown West home this coming Tuesday at 4:30 pm. Come out and support the boys. Go Lions!

With the score tied at one, Edenilson Nunez put the Lions ahead 2-1 off a cross from Preston Nutter 8 minutes into the second half. Kolton Heyman scored his first varsity goal and sealed the victory by converting a feed from Joe Ismail with roughly 4 minutes left in the game making it 3-1. On September 15, the West Islip Gymnastics Team competed against Half Hollow Hills and won with a 166.525 to 133.1. West Islip swept the podium on all events. On vault, in 3rd place came Kayla Scandura, followed by Emily Ball in second place and Anna Hall for first with an 8.9. On bars, in 3rd place Anna Hall, in 2nd place Kayla Scandura, and Emily Ball came in first place with an 8.05. On balance beam, Ava Bomberger placing 3rd, followed by Juliet LeClaire for 2nd place, then Anna Hall for first place with an outstanding 9.0 routine. On floor, in third place is Zoey Richardelli, followed by Kristen Messina in 2nd place, and taking first place was Emily Ball with a 9.1. Great job girls! The Girls' J.V. Field Hockey Team won their first game against Comsewogue in record fashion. The team won 2-1 after a shootout. The Lions scored in the third period to take a 1-0 lead with a quick shot by Vanessa Sutkowski. Comsewogue scored in the 4th Period to tie the game. Goals in the shootout were scored by Vanessa Sutkowski, Adrianna Capezza, and Jesse Shannon. Bella Chillianis recorded 10 saves in goal for the Lions.

Yesterday, the boys, soccer team defeated Eastport - South Manor 3-0 on Senior Recognition Night. Ben Boily scored his first varsity goal in the first half to make the score 1-0. Nilson Nunez and Charlie Basini each scored in the second half to make the score 3-0. In addition to scoring, Charlie Basini set up the first two goals of the game, while Quinn Butler earned his first varsity assist on the last goal of the game. Michael Tumminello earned his first varsity shutout in goal. Lastly, the boys play on the road tomorrow at Smithtown West at 3:30 pm.

Winning for the Lions were Julia Evangeliou, Shiloe Khokhar, Maya Sutkowski, Brianna Diaz and Brynn Ehlers

On September 8th 2026, the West Islip Varsity Gymnastics team competed against William Floyd in their first non-league competition. WI won with a total team score of 167.9 to 158.9. On vault, Anna Hall was first overall with a 9.35, followed by Kayla Scandura and Emily Ball with 8.3’s. On the uneven bars, Kayla Scandura came in second overall scoring an 8.3, and Emily Ball coming in third overall with an 8.175. On balance beam, Lena Okurkowski placed third overall scoring an 8.575. On floor, in 3rd place Kristen Messina scored a 9.1, in 2nd place Emily Ball scored a 9.2, and first place was Anna Hall with a 9.275. Incredible job girls! The next meet is our “squad meet” which will be home, this Friday on 9/11 starting at 4pm. Come support WIVG!

The baseball team won their first-round playoff game yesterday against Hills West 9 -3. Brian Brower pitched 6 innings giving up only 2 runs for the win, and Matt Tomasello threw the 7th to get the save. Antony Azzariti had a home-run, Chris Ruby also homered, Brian Brower had a RBI single, and Vance Kane added a 2 RBI double to pace the offense. The next game will be Friday, opponent and location TBD.

The Boys Varsity Tennis Team would like to congratulate the following players for qualifying for the conference 2 tournament.

Kevin Halloran, Tim Archacki, Ben Triglia, Tommy Albertelli, Dylan Carter , Nick Albertelli, Lucas Dosantos, Ryan Murray and Dan Murphy.

Brian Brower pitched 6 innings, giving up only 3 hits and no runs while striking out 6 in the baseball team's 3 - 0 win over East Islip on Tuesday. Connor Kenefick pitched the 7th to pick up the save. Ryan Gaffney and Anthony Azzariti each had a sacrifice fly RBI.

The Elizabeth T. McNamee Memorial Fund is starting their annual fundraising event. They are collecting old phones and ink cartridges. There is a drop in the main lobby for you to drop off your donations. Donations can be dropped off from now until May 29th.

To all High School athletes who have played 8 or 9 seasons in their 10 -12th grade years may pick up a Gold Key application, complete it and submit it to Coach Botsch or Coach Hassett.

The Student Senate is holding a supply drive to help restock the shelves of our Essential Needs Pantry for families in our community. We’re looking for the basics that make a big difference: unopened toiletries, hygiene products, and non-perishable food items. What might feel like a small donation to you is a huge relief for a neighbor in need. Drop off your donations to either Mr. Jablonski in Room 208, or Mr. Moglia in Room 188. As an added bonus, each item you donate earns you a raffle ticket to our drawing on May 18th! We will be giving out several gift cards, including Amazon, Starbucks, and other local restaurants! Let’s show up for each other and ensure no one goes without the essentials.

Volunteers are needed on May 16 to help with the SOS Race in Brightwaters. Duties include setup, cleanup, and handing out water to runners.

Time: 7:40 AM – 11:00 AM
There is also an opportunity to volunteer on May 15 in the late afternoon/evening for race setup.

The Boys JV Lacrosse team won their last game of the season 13-4 over Comsewogue. Gianni DeVivo led the offense with 4 goals and 4 assists. Sam Basini and Ronan King each scored 3 goals and Quinn Butler added 2 goals. Kyle Metkiff and Gavin Sandoval led the defense. Riley Scavo made 8 saves in goal. The boys ended the season with a 12-3 record.

The baseball team beat East Islip again yesterday to secure the League 4 championship. Connor Kenefick was his usual dominant self on the mound and at the plate. He pitched a complete game, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs while striking out 8. He also went 4 for 4 with an RBI. Will Delanoy homered and had 3 RBIs, Brian Brower had a double and an RBI, and Vance Kane and Ryan Gaffney added an RBI each. Matt Tomasello and Derek Kolman also had hits. The team goes for the series sweep on Friday.
