Good Morning. Today is Monday June 11. It is a BLUE day.

Attention all students, there is a Class of 2019 fundraiser at Cafe Europa on Tuesday 6/12 from 11AM - 10PM. Mention "West Islip Class of 2019" and 15% of your bill will be donated to the class.

Attention to those taking AP Physics 1 next year - Please stop by room 239 to pick up the summer assignment and your AP Physics textbook. Either Mr. Dixon or Mrs. Munno will be in the classroom from Period 1 until Period 8. We look forward to an awesome frictionless, motion filled school year.

All students taking AP Biology next year… Please stop by room 204 at the end of the day to pick up your summer assignment. Please don’t forget to pick up the cell packet.

​​​Any student who has registered to take AP Chemistry next fall must come to room 238 to pick up the summer assignment. The assignment must be picked up before June 11th.

For those 11th grade students whose parents were unable to attend a meeting yet, there is one more Chrome Book meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 12th at 6:30 pm. That will still allow you to pick up a Chromebook before the end of this school year.

Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving will have their mandatory Fall Sports Meeting today. The meeting will take place at the High School Pool at 2: 30.

9th grade students who have signed up for AP European History next year are reminded to read summer information that will soon be posted on the District website. If you have any questions, please see Mr. McNamara in room 138.”

Students can earn community service credit one last time before the school year ends by participating in the Helping Hands Backpack, School Supply, Kid’s meals beach towel, Veteran T-shirt drive. All donations dropped off on June 13 by 9:30am West Islip Firehouse 309 Union Blvd.

Congratulations to the Girls Track Team and their performances at the Suffolk country State qualifier meet. Klaire Klemens finished 6th in the steeple chase. Kimmie Arena finished 6th in the pole Vault and Katie Penny finished 11th in the pole vault. Isabella Rogler finished 4th in the race walk, earning all county honors. The relay team of Julianna Moses, Kiersten Dolan, Klaire Klemens, and Christine Delianne finished 7th in the country while breaking the school record. The relay team of Shannon Horan, Mikayla Woss, Meghan Spence, and Klaire Klemens finished 7th in the country. Congratulations girls.

Congratulations to the members of the Boys Track and Field team that were named to the All County team last night. This includes the 4 by 400 meter relay team of Desmond Benton, Peter DeMicco, Kyle Cronin, and Greg Bove who are currently ranked number 8 in the state and pentathlete Kevin Cassidy. Great season Boys!

June 4, 2018

Good Morning. Today is Monday June 4. It is a GOLD day.

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse captured the Long Island championship yesterday beating Massapequa 6-5 in a thrilling overtime victory. Jaden Hampel tied the game at 5 with 1:03 left in the game. Sam Blair scored an 8 meter shot in the second overtime period to seal the win. Danielle Marino had 3 goals and Lauren Di Stefano made 13 saves. This is the 4th Long Island Championship for the program in 5 years. The Lady Lions will travel to Cortland Thursday morning trying to win a state championship. Good luck ladies and keep it going.

JV Football will have a meeting this evening June 4th to meet with players parents and coaching staff about summer camp and equipment hand out.

Varsity Football will begin another great journey on Monday June 4th for their first team meeting and summer pre testing in the weight room right after this meeting. JV football players are also expected to start their pre testing on Monday June 4th at 220 pm. If you have any conflicts or questions please see Coach Mileti Coach Yuli or Coach Kane.

If you think you qualify for the academic excellence club make sure you for out the form in the counseling office. The qualifications for the academic excellence club are 1380 SAT or 29 ACT and a 90 unweighted average after 3rd quarter senior year.

Last Friday the Graduate’s Plan Sheet was handed out to all seniors. If you didn’t get this green sheet in your class, pick one up in the Counseling Office, fill it out and return it to your counselor by May 25th.

Sophomores who are interested in going to Guatemala over February break for a service trip should see Ms. Matthews for more information. During the week we will build a house for a family in need, visit schools and participate in cultural immersion activities. There will be an informational meeting for parents and students on Thursday, May 24th at 7 pm in room 188.

Girls Varsity and JV will have a meeting Wednesday May 30th in room 135 at 2:15.

The Girls Lacrosse Team defeated Wardmelville yesterday 7-6 and now have an opportunity to compete for the county championship against their rival Northport next Thursday at Hauppauge high school at 5:30. Please come out and support the lady lions capture another county championship.

Great game was played by all, keep it up ladies you can do this !!!!!!!

Isabella Rogler finished 3rd in the race walk. Christine Delianne finished 3rd in the 400. The relay team of Shannon Horan, Mikayla Woss, Klaire Klemens and Meghan Spence finished 2nd in the 4x800. Finally the relay team of Julianna Moses, Kiersten Dolan, Klaire Klemens and Christine Delianne finished 3rd in the 4x400 relay. Congratulations girls.

The Boys Varsity Tennis Team defeated Mattituck on Monday 5 to 2. Winning for the Lions were Marty Racanelli, Richie Racanelli, Andrew Fogel, Connor Sammut, Connor Gallagher, Derek Kim and Nick Santo .​

Varsity softball beat #3 seed North Babylon yesterday 3-2 in 8 innings. Brianna Adams had the go ahead RBI to score Allison Weston in the top of the 8th. If you think you qualify for the academic excellence club make sure you for out the form in the counseling office. The qualifications for the academic excellence club are 1380 SAT or 29 ACT and a 90 unweighted average after 3rd quarter senior year.

Last Friday the Graduate’s Plan Sheet was handed out to all seniors. If you didn’t get this green sheet in your class, pick one up in the Counseling Office, fill it out and return it to your counselor by May 25th.

Attention all Junior National Honor Society Members: Anyone interested in applying for an officer position for the 2018-2019 school year, applications are available in the library.

The Lions advance in the winners bracket for for the first round of playoffs! Julianna Budriss hit a triple in the sixth inning to break a tie at 1 and lead No. 6 West Islip (14-5) over No. 11 Bellport in the first round the Suffolk AA playoffs. Alex Michaluk hit a single made in the third inning to tie the game at 1. Jamison Lundie struck out five in a four-hitter and allowed no earned runs to earn the win.

There will be a meeting for all boys coming out for the Cross Country team on Wednesday, May 23rd immediately after school in room 139. Any athlete with a conflict should see Mr. Murphy.

The JV Baseball Team finished their season last week with a 4 to 1 victory over North Babylon. Matt Gordon pitched 5 innings allowing no runs while striking out 7 to earn the win. Jimmy Guidice came in relief with the bases loaded and no out in the 6th and was able to get the next three batters out and Kevin Palm pitched a scoreless 7th inning to earn the save. Jake Coffey and Jack Marano each drove in runs. With the win the JV team finished the year with a record of 17 wins and 1 lose, congratulations of a great season.

The JV Baseball Team defeated North Babylon 15-0. Nolan Walters pitched 5 shutout innings while striking out 8 to earn the win. Jack Kory recorded the last 6 outs while allowing no hits and striking out one. Nick Sandoval, Bobby Marsh, and Sean DeLuca each had 2 RBI's to lead the offense and Joe Saccente was outstanding in the field. The win was a team effort.

Varsity softball improves to 12-4 with a win against Smithtown East. Julianna Budriss was 2-4 including a three run home run. Samantha Landri was 2-4 with 4 RBIs including a 2 run homerun. Brianna Adams was 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Great job girls! Keep it going!

The Boys JV Lacrosse Team defeated Northport in overtime by the score of 9-8. Luke Cosentino lead the team with 11 saves. Parker Reilly scored 3 goals. Tommy Corcoran, Chris Delaney and Ryan Behrens each scored 2 goals apiece. Rowan Kelly had 2 assists and Nico Severino added 1 assist.

Thirst Project is hosting a second Driven to Give event this Sunday April 29th from 11-3PM at Bright Bay Lincoln Mercury in Bay Shore. Check our social media for details. There's no pressure at all to buy a car, but for every licensed driver who comes down to test drive, our club receives $40 from Lincoln. Students can get community service hours for coming down. Plus, there will be donuts! Hope to see you there! Bring a family member or friend.

The JV Softball Team improved their record to 5-1 with back to back wins over Half Hollow Hills East 14-2 and West Babylon 17-9. Pam Curtin pitched for the win against Hills East with Amber Beebe, Captain Emily Donohue, Sophia Randazzo, Jess Ferraroni, and Captain Amanda Librizzi each having a multiple hit game. Against West Babylon, Librizzi, Curtin and Donohue split time on the mound with Librizzi picking up the win. Great games girls!

The JV Baseball Team defeated Newfield yesterday 12 to 0. Matt Gordon pitched 5 scoreless innings while striking out 10 to earn the win. Brian Lundie pitched the final 2 innings allowing no hits and striking out 3. C.J. Doyle led the offense going 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's and Sean Deluca went 2 for 3 from the plate. The win was an entire team effort.

In Monday’s game vs. West Babylon, Samantha Gagliardi pitched a solid three innings with 3 strikeouts and Jamison Lundie pitched two innings for the save. Brianna Adams was 3-4 with 4 RBIs including a two run homerun. Freshman, Alex Michaluk was 4-4 with 2 RBIs. Erin Schweers was 2-4 with 2RBIs. They are now 7-4. Nice job ladies!!!

Congratulations to senior Greg Bove who on Tuesday broke the school record for triple jump with a mark of 44 feet 10 and a half inches. The previous record was 44 feet 8 inches set in 2012 by Chris Nohilly. Way to go Greg.

Congratulations to the Girls Track Team in the defeat of Half Hollow Hills West. Kimmy Arena tied the school record jumping 9 feet. The Chorale was the only choir representing NY in the Distinguished Concerts International ensemble. We are so proud of your hard work, commitment and musical performance. Congratulations to the West Islip Robotics Team on their performance at the FIRST LI Regional at Hofstra University last week! The team's superior autonomous mode, amazing robot and winning drive team earned them a place in the quarterfinals. The team also won the Innovation in Control Award for the second year in the row. Congratulations to the entire team for a great team effort!

Attention members of National English Honor Society: A mandatory meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 17 to finalize plans for Spring into Poetry and to collect any outstanding dues. New inductees who have not paid dues jeopardize their membership.

Any girls that wish to participate in the HEARTT fashion show for a cause this year on May 19th, 2018 at the Marconi Manor in Islip -- Please see Mrs. Scudder in room 298 or Ashley Catalano as soon as possible. Fashion is Prom and evening gown wear. You will receive community services and a discount on dresses to all those participating.

Varsity Softball won 2-1 yesterday against Eastport South Manor. Jamison Lundie pitched 7 shutout innings after giving up a run in the first with 7 strikeouts and only 4 hits. Emily Michaluk was 4-5 with the game winning RBI. Brianna Adams had a sac fly to tie the game in the 7th. The Lions are now 4-1.

The Class of 2021 would like to congratulate the TEACHERS on their 3rd consecutive year of winning the student versus teacher Lip-Sync Battle! Maybe the students can make a come-back next year! A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped out, participated, and all who attended! See you for more fun next year!

Jimmy Guidice came in relief and pitched two and a third scoreless innings to earn the win. Jacob Coffey led the offense going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Kyle Haff and Jack Marano were both outstanding in the field.

The Team what is led by Greg Bove, Andrew Paules, Kevin Cassidy, Desmond Benton, and Peter DeMicco. Toby Wefering also contributed his first varsity points. The JV baseball defeated Centereach yesterday 4 to 3. Joe Saccente drove in Nolan Walters in the top of the 7th for the go ahead run. Kyle Haff pitched 5 solid innings allowing 1 earned run and striking out 6. Brian Lundie earned the win in relief and Jimmy Guidice pitched a scoreless 7th to earn the save. Jacob Coffey was 1 for 2 with and RBI and Sean DeLuca was 2 for 3 from the plate to lead the offense.

The Boys Varsity Tennis Team defeated Connetquot 4 to 3. Winning for the Lions were Marty Racanelli, Richie Racanelli, Evan Lam, Patrick LeHen, Connor Sammutt and Andrew Fogel.

Varsity Softball defeated Centereach in 5 innings with a score of 17-2. Julianna Budriss hit a two run HR, Jamison Lundie got the win with 4 strikeouts and freshman Alex Michaluk went 4-4 with two doubles. They are now 1-0 in league play. Congrats girls!

The Boys JV Lacrosse Team defeated Connetquot by the score of 13-4. Rowan Kelly led the team with 4 goals and 4 assists. Parker Reilly, Chris Delaney and Ryan Behrens all scored 3 goals a piece and Tommy Corcoran added 2 assists.

Fall sport sign ups will begin during your Physical Education classes for the next two weeks and will end on Friday April 21st. The pink cards will be set out in front of the PE teacher's office in each locker room. The Fall sports are Football, Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Boys Volleyball, Girls Volleyball, Girls Tennis, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country.

The West Islip Soccer Club’s Special Needs soccer team is looking for volunteers to assist during practice. Emily White and Maggie Davidson were amazing securing loose balls. Holly Schweitzer, Meagan Sherlock, Kayla Gillespie, Taylor Alexander and Briana Siclari were outstanding on defense. Lily Bilello and Maria Pellegrino were amazing in Goal. Congratulations to the entire team for a great team effort.

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse defeated Bayshore 13-4 in their season opener. Jaden Hampel led the team with 3 goals and 6 assists followed by Danielle Marino and Sam Blair with 3 goals apiece. Great job girls let's keep getting better.

Congratulations to the Girls JV Lacrosse team for beating arch rival Bayshore 18-0 yesterday. Carly Cenci and Julia Barje each had 3 goals. Amanda Sgueglia added 2 goals and an assist. Congratulations to the girls track team and their win against Comeswogue. The team of Katie Penny, Kimmie Arena and Melissa Khoury finished 1, 2, 3 in the pole vault. Katie Penny, Cayla Romano, and Alexa Boniberger swept the hurdles for West Islip. The relay team of Klaire Klemens, Mikayla Woss, Isabella Rogler, and Meghan Spence clinched the win for West Islip. Other great performances were had by Carley Peters, Emily Welch, and Julianna Moses. Way to go girls.

Yesterday the Boys Varsity Track and Field team opened up their season with a dominant effort against Comsewogue. The lions won by the final score of 103 to 34. The team was led by Greg Bove who came in first place in 4 events. Many others contributed to the victory including some athletes who scored their first ever varsity points. These athletes are Connor Trees, Mark Forte, and John Bonniberger. Way to go boys and good luck next week vs Eastport South Manor.

The JV Softball team.....coming off of an undefeated 2017 season.....continued that success opening the 2018 season with a 9-0 win against Centereach. Pitcher and captain Amanda Librizzi carried a no-hitter into the 7th, finishing with a 1-hit game. Mia DiCola legged out an inside the park homerun. The defense was perfect, committing no errors and highlighted by great plays by Alexa Camillery and Lauren Lettieri. Way to start the season girls! Great job!

Any donations can be left in room 298 or across from the attendance window at the high school and earn Community service hours.​

The JV Brainstormer Team has qualified for playoff competition. Congratulations to our JV team of Ashley Ferro, Sarah Kolk, Dorian Scourtos, Jake Turcios and Dean Festa. Congratulations also goes to our Varsity team that ended up taking 3rd place in a division of 10 teams. We thank all of our graduating seniors for their participation over the years and a special congratulations goes to Tim Cameron who is the only Brainstormer to be a part of the team all 4 years.

He has done it again! This weekend Greg Bove Finished 8th overall in the 600 Meter race at the New York State Championship meet. By doing this Greg has completed his senior year as an all-league, all division, all county, and all state athlete. In his race on Saturday Greg re-broke the school record and ran an impressive 1 minute and 22 second race. Congratulations Greg on an outstanding career.

Thirst Project is donating personal hygiene items to Our Lady of Lourdes. If you’d like to donate toothpaste or shampoo or any personal care item, please bring your donation to Room 183. We will deliver everything to the church pantry in early March.

A reminder to all girls trying out for the Girl’s JV Lacrosse Team. You must hand in your Blue Card to Coach Dooley this week. Any girl who does not have a Blue Card will not be allowed to try out for the team. Any questions see Coach Dooley.

All money raised will be donated to American Society for Deaf Children to help improve the deaf lives of many.

Congratulations to Greg Bove on earning a trip to the New York State Track and Field Championship meet. Greg finished last night’s meet earning All-county in two different events, The Triple Jump and the 600 Meter race. In the process of doing this Greg also broke our school record in both those events. The state meet is March 3rd. Congrats Greg. Other athletes that had a great night include Kevin Cassidy who High Jumped a personal Record of 6 feet one inch to finish 5th in Suffolk county and the 4 by 800 meter relay team of Desmond Benton, Frank Riviezzo, Andrew Paules, and Peter DeMicco who finished fourth in Suffolk County. Congratulations to all of you.

Would you like to take part in a Science Research experiment? Some of our very own, West Islip High School science students spend a great deal of time doing independent research. Your participation in some of these research experiments is much needed and appreciated by your peers. Congratulations to the Girls Winter Track Team and their performances at the county championships. Isabella Rogler finished 5th in the racewalk. Klaire Klemens finished 6th in the 1500 meter run. The team of Christine Delianne, Shannon Horan, Julianna Moses and Klaire Klemens finished 6th in the 4 x 400 meter relay. Way to go girls.

The Wrestling Team wrestled well at the League 4 Tournament. The following wrestlers achieved all league status and will compete at the county tournament this weekend. Nick Marino and Tommy Corcoran finished in 4th place. Bobby Filippi and Matt Moynihan finished in 3rd place. Brad Wilson finished in 2nd place. Brian Calhoun was crowned League Champion.

The class of 2018 will be hosting a blood drive all day Tuesday January 30th. Signups will be outside cafeteria A/B all lunch periods during the week of the 23rd. You are only able to donate if you are over 16. If you are 16 you must have parent’s consent. Those who donate will receive a special gift and will be eligible to win Dunkin Donuts gift cards. The person who reaches our goal for donors will receive a special basket. Thank you, hope to see you on the 30th.

Attention all Seniors! Suffolk Community College will be coming to the High School for On-Site Registration February 6th & 7th. If you are interested in participating please make sure you sign up in the counseling office and complete the online application no later than Friday, February 2nd.

The Babylon Rotary Club is looking for student volunteers to assist in their Babylon Ends Hunger Program on February 3, 2018. PS I Love you is Friday, Feb. 9th. To help us help others PS I Love you T-shirts will be on sale during lunch periods and after school beginning today. Shirt prices start at $10! Kindness grams will also be available for $1 each. Finally, there will be a Love out Loud concert beginning at 630 pm on Feb. 6th in the High School Auditorium.
