The varsity softball team won both of their playoff games this weekend, propelling them to the county semi finals! They beat Half Hollow Hills East 3-2 on Friday and shut out Sachem East Saturday 3-0. Caitlyn Herzing earned both wins and was dominant in the circle. She also had the winning walk off double on Friday. Makayla Comer crushed a long double that just missed a homerun. The defense was on fire, especially Saturday, getting the Lions out of a bases loaded, no out threat by Sachem East in the top of the 7th. Katie Fix was lights out at 3rd making several outstanding plays. The Lions look to keep the win train rolling when they take on league 3 rival North Babylon today at 4:00 at North Babylon in the county semi finals! Go Lions!

The JV baseball team defeated Deer Park yesterday 13 to 5. Alex Burciaga pitched 5 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 9 to earn his 6th win of the season. Alex Romeo pitched the final 2 innings in relief. Chris Piropato led the offense going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Rocco Carpinello and Gavin DiBendetto each had 2 hits on the day. Great win boys!

The JV baseball defeated Hauppauge yesterday 6 to 4. Rocco Carpinello pitched 5 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 to earn the win. Alex Burciaga came in relief to pitch the final 2 innings allowing no runs and striking out 3 to earn the save. With the game tied at 4 in the bottom of the 4th inning Calvin Adam's sac fly scored Rocco Carpinello to give the lions the lead for good . Carprinello, Burciaga, Sean Cantwell, and Shaun Boyle each had an RBI on the day. Great win boys.

The JV baseball team defeated Smithtown West yesterday 5 to 0. Calvin Adam pitched 6 scoreless innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 6 to earn the win. Jake Romeo came in relief and pitched a perfect 7th inning. The offense was led by Alex Burciaga and Chris Piropato who each hit 2 run home runs in the 3rd inning to give the lions the lead for good. Great win boys!

The varsity softball team improved their record to 12-1 with wins over Newfield, Huntington, and Bellport. Caitlyn Herzing earned all three wins from the mound. In the 8-1 win against Newfield, Makayla Comer and Kayla Sauers picked up multiple RBIs. In the 7-3 win against Huntington, Comer and Kat DaSilva picked up multiple hits and RBI's, and yesterday in the 13-3 win against Bellport, Alex Michaluk, Herzing, and Julia O'Sullivan all picked up multiple hits and Nick Beebe launched a 2 run HR. The final regular season home game is tomorrow at 4 against Smithtown West.

Jake McEnaney pitched the final 3 innings allowing no runs while striking out 4. Joe Piropato led the offense going 2 for 2 with a grand slam and 5 RBI's. Dean Miller was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and Bobby Richardson and Derek Rivera both made a great defensive plays in the field. The win was entire team effort. Great job boys!

In the Centereach game Friday, Kat DaSilva earned the win on the mound and helped herself with a two run homerun. In the Northport game Sunday, Makayla Comer hit a 2 run homerun, Alex Michaluk went 1-3 with four RBI and Nick Beebe went 2-4 also with 4 RBI. Caitlyn Herzing struck out 10 for the win. The Lions look to hit double digit wins when they travel to Newfield this afternoon, and the next home game is Thursday at 4 against Huntington.

The varsity softball team improved their record to 7-1 yesterday in another exciting win against Smithtown East, with a final score of 10-6. The Lions bats were on fire with Keirsten Nizen, Makayla Comer, and Kat DaSilva each hitting homeruns. Nizen, DaSilva, Annie Chambers and Kayla Sauers all had 2 RBI's on the day. Caitlyn Herzing earned the win. Over the weekend, Nick Beebe and Comer each put one over the fence and Sophia Randazzo collected 7 RBI's in wins against Smithtown East, with Herzing earning the win, and Centereach, with Julia O'Sullivan earning the win in a one hit outing. The team looks to keep the train rolling against Centereach at home tomorrow (Friday 5/21) at 4 PM. Come out and support the team!

In an exciting, true team win, the Varsity Softball Team improved their record to 4-0 with a 9-4 win against Bellport yesterday. Keirsten Nizen put WI on the board when she picked up 3 RBIs with a two out, bases clearing triple in the bottom of the 4th to score Kat DaSilva and Annie Chambers who both singled and Mia DiCola who had walked. Nizen also made 2 outstanding catches in right field to preserve the win. Chambers, Di Cola, Nizen, Alex Michaluk, Makayla Comer, Katie Fix, and Caitlyn Herzing all contributed to a 6 run sixth inning to seal the win for Herzing and the team. The Lions look to keep the winning streak alive this weekend with away games against Smithtown West Saturday, Centereach Sunday, and back home Monday at 4PM against North Babylon. Come out to watch some exciting softball and support the team!
The JV baseball defeated Smithtown West yesterday 13-2. Alex Burciaga and Jake Romeo combined to pitched 7 innings allowing only 2 runs and striking out 9. The offense was led by Alex Burciaga who had 4 RBI's, Sean Cantwell with 3 RBI's and Calvin Adam with 2 RBI's. The win was an entire team effort. Great job boys.
The girls varsity lacrosse team defeated Islip yesterday 15-10.
The team was led by Steph Doyle 4 goals, Maggie Daividson with 3 goals 2 assists, Carli Cenci with 2g 2a, Gabby Nicolosi 1 g 3 a, Gianna Gentile 3 goals Nikki Mottes 2 goals 1assist and Lauren LaMorte 1 assist. Avery Lanzarotta had her first varsity start in goal with 5 saves.

The varsity baseball team has started off the season 2-0 with wins over Eastport and Comsewogue. Josh Piht and Matt Gordon combined to drive in five runs in a 6-5 victory over ESM. On Monday, Matt Gordon pitched five innings striking out 7 and allowing one run. Nick Viega pitched two scoreless innings. At the plate Anthony Riviezzo was 2-2 with an RBI.

The varsity softball team opened up the spring season with an exciting, extra inning victory, defeating Smithtown East by a score of 6-5. Game was ended in the 8th with solid defense when catcher Mia Di Cola fired a throw to Nick Beebe to catch Smithtown E attempting to steal second. Pitcher Caitlyn Herzing earned the win and had 9 strikeouts. Offense was led by Makayla Comer who went 3 for 4 with a key 2 run HR over the left field fence. Great way to start the season!

Whether you plan to attend college, the military, a trade school, or head straight to a career, we invite each senior to fill out a lion paw print with your name and post-secondary destination and post it on the wall outside of the Counseling office.

On Monday, May 3rd is Senior Class of 2021 Decision Day! There will be a mural outside of the Counseling Office for you to let everyone at WIHS know where you plan to go after high school. Whether you plan to attend college, the military, a trade school, or head straight to a career, we invite each senior to fill out a lion paw print with your name and post-secondary destination and post it on the wall outside of the Counseling office.

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Volleyball team on their thrilling five set victory over Eastport South Manor yesterday. The team was led by Nina Westerlind with 12 kills and Lola Konopa with 9 kills. McKenna Smith had 22 assists while Ashley Bernstein had 15 digs. The girl’s record has now improved to 6-1.

11th grader Jacqueline Triglia broke the Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving 200 yard individual medley record yesterday in the meet against Sayville Bayport Bluepoint. Jacqueline swam the event in 2:13.02 breaking her previous record of 2:14.48.

The boys Cross Country team defeated North Babylon yesterday by a score of 24 to 31. Leading the team with the overall first place finish was John Boniberger. Rounding out the top 5 for West Islip scoring were Dorian Scourtos, Aidan Ciesluk, Chris Acosta and Aaron Glass. Great performances were turned in by the entire team.

The girls varsity volleyball team opened their season with a win over Bellport, winning 3 games to 1. The offensive attack was led by Averie Alessi, who had 15 Kills. Amanda Ditaranto and Ashley Bernstein combined for 30 digs.
On Tuesday, the girls cross country team defeated Bellport in a score of 27- 29. The team was led by Peyton Miller who won the 2.88 mile race. Peyton was followed by Alexa Boniberger, Lizzy Lam, Sabrina Cassese, Mia Brandenstein and Francesca Milone. Congratulations girls. Good luck against North Babylon.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team scored another victory on Friday at home in their season finale by defeating Babylon. Chris Salatto led all scorers with a career high 22 points. Kevin Rion added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Napolitano hit his first 3 point shot of the year which resulted in a display of massive self appreciation. The Lions celebrated by blocking Kevin Rion’s car in the parking lot, intentionally delaying him from rushing home to watch Peppa Pig. Coach Cross and Coach Cameron would like to thank all of the seniors for a very successful season.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team recorded 3 victories recently. Yesterday, at home, the Lions defeated Centereach in a league game on Senior Night, by the score of 62-47. Kevin Rion scored a game high 17 points. Bobby Marsh added 15 points while Tobi Wefering chipped in with 9. Solid contributions were added by Chris Salatto, Connor Martin, and Dan Bachety. Over the break, the Lions beat Patchogue Medford by 6 points. Bobby Marsh led all scorers with 17 points. The Lions also defeated Islip by a score of 50-40. Kevin Rion led the way with 20 points while Bobby Marsh had 16 and Connor Martin had 8. The team has 2 more games to go in its quest to finish over .500 when they travel to Eastport on Thursday night and host Babylon on Friday night. Both games can be viewed on the district's WI Athletics YouTube channel.

On Friday, the girls track team defeated Huntington in a score of 57-56. Lola Konopa won the triple jump and placed 3rd in the high jump. Gianna Alini placed 2nd in both the 1000 m and the long jump. Lizzy Lam won the 1000 meters and placed 2nd in the 3000 m. The relay team of Alexa Boniberger, Mia Brandenstein, Lizzy Lam and Peyton Miller won the 4 x 400 relay which gave West Islip the final points to win the meet. Congratulations girls.

Congratulations to the girls winter track team on their defeat of Bellport on Sunday. The team was led by Peyton Miller who won the 1500, 3000, and the 4 x 400 relay and Alexa Boniberger who won the long jump, placed second in the hurdles and was on the winning 4 x 400 relay team.
