We will ask our students, faculty, and staff to wear crazy socks on Friday, March 20th.

If you are in need of a pair of socks to rock, The Life Skills Class will be selling blue and gold tie dye socks the week of March 16th through the 20th. Each pair will cost $5.00. You can purchase them in The Dollar Cafe in Room 191 or outside Cafeteria A/B during lunch periods.

The Varsity Brainstormer team defeated its cross town rival North Babylon by a score of 129 to 115. The team was led by Matt Stabeneau, Jimmy Ziti and Ethan Miller. The team now moves on to the playoffs. Congratulations on a great regular season.

Congratulations to the West Islip boys varsity swimming and diving team, led by coaches Mac Loudon and Ed Jablonski, on an impressive season to date. Due to pool construction, the Lions were road warriors. They once again competed for a regular season title, setting numerous personal and school records along the way, and had a historic showing at the Suffolk County Championship. Tyler Brady made a triumphant return to the podium with an outstanding third place finish in the Suffolk County Diving Championship. The 200-meter medley relay team – Colin Stueber, Billy DeWitt, Braden Felix and Everett Lu – also captured third place in the county and will advance to the 2025-2026 New York State Swimming and Diving Championships in Ithaca. Individually, Colin Stueber dominated the competition as the County Champion in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing six seconds ahead of the field, and also qualified for states in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle. Billy DeWitt once again earned state qualifications in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, while Braden Felix secured his spot at states with a standout 100-yard breaststroke performance. The Lions will once again be exceptionally well represented at the NYSPHSAA Championships this year.

The wrestling team hosted the league 5 wrestling tournament on Saturday. The Lions battled and at the end of the day 7 wrestlers achieved all league status.

Leo Mastroberti finished as league 5 champion.

Orson Munoz and Andrew Cohen both finished in second place. Joe Gorman, Paul Vasaturo, and Matt Marker finished in 3rd place. Caden Viar finished in 4th place. All 7 of these outstanding wrestlers will be competing at the section 11 tournament next weekend at Stony Brook University. Go Lions!

The Boys Varsity Basketball team secured their first spot in the playoffs since 2009 with a 58-37 victory over Hauppauge on Friday night in front of an amazing home crowd. Jovan Brewster led the way with 17 points, Conor Kenefick added 15 and TJ Sonnenberg had 11. Chase Busking chipped in with 8 points and Angelo Lanteri had 6. The Lions will play next Friday night in the Section XI playoffs, team and site to be determined. Coach Cross and Coach Zeitler would like to thank the Lions for an amazing and unforgettable season, and thank the fans for coming out as well.

The Lady Lions were led in scoring by Sammi Miale, Kayley Obloj, and Charlotte Sefick. Attention all wrestlers - there will be a brief mandatory meeting right after school in the wrestling room. Please bring uniforms - jv wrestlers can practice today...all wrestlers who are wrestling off to participate in the leagues must be there.

On Sunday, the boys winter track team won the Section XI Small School Team County Championships. The team scored a total of 52 points, coming out on top by only 2 points. Congratulations! Highlights included - Chase Miller won the 3200 and was 5th in the 1600, Brandon Wisniewski was 4th in the 55 and 3rd in the 300, Sebastian Niewinski won the 300, Ryan Hoffman was 2nd in shot put, Jake Riley was 2nd in long jump. The 4x200 team of Jakob Timm, Brandon Wisniewski, Nicolas Winter, Sebastian Niewinski finished 3rd to secure the victory. In the 600, both Matt Haarstick and Landon Mancini ran personal bests. In the 1600, Vin Maffetone ran a season best. In long jump, Eric Yang produced a strong series of jumps just short of his season best. The 4x4 team of Ethan Platt, Narmer Compere, Matt Haarstick, and Landon Mancini put forth a strong effort. A tremendous team victory. Go Lions!

The Boys Varsity Basketball team won a thriller at home last night in overtime vs. Harborfields. Chase Busking hit the driving game winning layup with 4 seconds left to break a tie, and the Lions defended the last chance shot at the rim by Harborfields. The win pushes the Lions to 9-7 overall, with 4 games left. Jovan Brewster scored a game high 29 points for the Lions. The Lions travel to Hills West on Thursday, and host Islip at home on Saturday.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team scored a huge victory on the road at East Hampton on Friday night, 60-44. Trailing by 7 at half time, the Lions outscored East Hampton 24-9 in the 3rd quarter, including 16 points that quarter from Jovan Brewster, who finished with a game high 28 points. Conor Kenefick finished with 12 points and TJ Sonnenberg had 11. Key contributions were also added by Chase Busking, Angelo Lanteri, Peter Malone, Jack Chopin, and Michael Tumminello. The Lions host Harborfields Tuesday night at home at 6:45 in a crucial League 4 match up. We would love to have some fans at the game again like we had vs. Huntington earlier in the season!!!

The team had 7 finalists and 10 place winners out of the 16 wrestlers they entered running away with the competition. TJ Sonnenberg scored a career high 17 points and Conor Kenefick chipped in with 15 points. Chase Busking had 7 points and 9 assists and went 5 for 5 from the foul line. The Lions host Comsewogue on Monday in a very pivotal League 4 match up at 6:15pm.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team won their 4th straight game yesterday by defeating Central Islip 59-44 in a Non League contest. Jovan Brewster led the way with 27 points. TJ Sonnenberg chipped in with a career high 14 points, while Angelo Lanteri scored a career high 8 points. The Lions play Copiague next on December 30th at noon over the holiday break.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team capped off a memorable week by going 3-0, after beating East Hampton, Babylon, and Harborfields. On Friday night, the Lions outlasted Harborfields for a crucial League 4 victory on the road. Trailing by 10 in the 3rd quarter, the Lions rallied behind the scoring of Jovan Brewster, Conor Kenefick and Brian Brower. Brewster scored a game high 18 points. Chase Busking iced the game with 2 crucial free throws with 6 seconds left to seal the win. The Lions host Central Islip tonight (Monday, 12/22) at home at 6:30pm

The Varsity Wrestling Team had an outstanding weekend. They started by defeating a tough league 5 opponent, Comsewogue 56 to 19. It was a great team effort led by Andrew cohen who was named wrestler of the meet.

On Saturday the wrestlers traveled upstate to compete in the Clarkstown North Duals. The lions had 3 wrestlers who were undefeated on the day: Leo Mastroberti, Christian Vecchione, and Orson Munoz.

Orson was named the team outstanding wrestler on the day as helped the lions win all 5 matches they wrestled.

Paul Vasaturo also made west Islip wrestling history becoming only the third wrestler to reach 100 wins during his career.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team scored a huge victory at home yesterday, 56-52, vs. East Hampton. Jovan Brewster scored a game high 17 points. TJ Sonnenberg had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Connor Kenefick and Chase Busking hit some clutch free throws to seal the win. The Lions travel to play cross town rival Babylon on Thursday at 4:30pm.

The boys JV basketball team moved their record to 3-1 with a 62-51 win over East Hampton last night. The Lions were led offensively by Finn Walters who had 17 points, Dom Carosella with 14, and Noah Cotto with 13. The boys look to pick up their fourth win of the season on Thursday at Babylon.

The varsity wrestling team defeated Cold Spring Harbor last night in a non league match 42 to 36.

Wins were recorded by Max Gokhshtein, Regan Lyden, Orson Munoz, Joe Gordon, Paul Vasaturo, Leo Mastroberti, and Matt Marker who was chosen as the outstanding wrestler of the meet. The lions will have their first home match this Friday night at 5pm as they take on Comsewogue.

The West Islip JV Hockey Team improved their record to 9-4 by defeating Connetquot/Sayville by a score of 8-6. Ryan Bonkov lead the lions to the victory scoring three goals and getting the hat trick. Goals were also scored by Lucas DosSantos , James Aspetti, and Kevin Mills. Michael Elco had another great game in net shutting down Connetquot/Sayville late in the game preserving the victory. The team is back in action against East Islip on Monday, January 12 when they take on East Islip at 7:50PM at the RINX.

West Islip Varsity Cheer had a successful weekend! They placed 2nd at their first traditional competition of the season.
Then earning both Traditional and Game Day bids to Nationals! Congrats WIVC! This is only the beginning!

The JV and Varsity Brainstormer teams each defeated Copiague by over 100 points each this past Wednesday. Of particular note was the varsity victory by a score of 167 to 47, including taking the last 18 out of 20 question in the closing round. The Varsity team was made up of Matt Stabenau, Jimmy Ziti, Ethan Miller, Kevin Hollaran and Marccello Attallah.

The boys JV basketball team moved to 2-0 last night with a dominating 62-35 win over ESM. The boys led 37-30 halfway through the third quarter and went on a 13-0 run to make it 50-30 heading into the 4th. The boys once again played great team defense and had 11 players score offensively led by Finn Walters and Dom Carosella who had 12 apiece and Peter Ciancarelli with 11. The boys look to make it 3-0 when they travel to Westhampton on Thursday.

The Class of 2027 will be having a meeting today after school in room 107.

On Monday night, the West Islip Varsity Girls Basketball team had an exciting win over Eastport South Manor in a closely fought game. Freshman Sammi Miale hit a short jump shot with 1.3 seconds left to break a tie and send the Lady Lions home with their first league victory of the year while improving to 3-1 to start the season. Leading all scorers was Kayley Obloj with 8 points and Samanatha McCormack with 6.

The Boys JV Basketball Team won their season opener on Friday night by a score of 59-28 over Huntington. The Lions played stifling defense and had 11 players score on offense led by a game high 18 points by Dom Carosella. The boys look to move to 2-0 with a game tonight vs ESM at 6:45.

The West Islip Wrestling Team started off their season this weekend at the Amityville tournament. The team finished in 3rd place out of ten teams. 13 wrestlers placed for the lions.

The JV hockey team improved their record last night to 7-4 after defeating Northport by a score 5-4. Goals were scored by Ryan Bonkov, and Kevin Mills whose goal was assisted by Jeremy Sinclair giving the Lions the lead they needed. Michael Elco had another great game in net making big saves, including a breakaway save late in the game.
The team is back in action next Wednesday, December 10 against Ward Melville at 7:30PM at the RINX.

The West Islip JV Hockey Team was in action on Thanksgiving Eve and improved their record to 6-4, after beating Smithtown by a score of 4-2. Ryan Bonkov led the lions to the victory, scoring three goals, and getting the hat trick. Michael Elco had another phenomenal game in goal, making big saves throughout the game. The team looks to improve their record when they face-off against Northport tonight (Monday, 12/01) at 9:20PM at the RINX.

The West Islip Junior Varsity Wrestling Team began the season at the Mount Sinai JV tournament, standout performers were:

The JV Hockey Team improved their record to 5 and 4 Friday night defeating Sachem by a score of 4-2. Goals were scored by Ryan Bonkov who scored a short handed goal that gave the lions the lead. Goals were also scored by Jeremy Sinclair, Sal Randazzo, and James Aspetti. Michael Elco had a phenomenal game in goal, made big saves, to ensure the lions got the win. The team looks to improve their record when they face-off against Smithtown on Wednesday, November 26 at 7:30PM at the RINX in Hauppauge.

Congratulations to the West Islip Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team!
This past Monday, our Lions placed 3rd overall in the Suffolk County Team Championships! The team wrapped up a wonderful season filled with hard work, determination, and team spirit. The girls broke their team record on Monday scoring a 167.925. We’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see what next season brings!

A special shoutout to the Emily Ball, Emily Gavers, Juliet LeClaire, Ava Bomberger and Lena Okurkowski, five of the seven members of WIVG who will be competing this Friday at Babylon High School in the Individual County Championships, where they’ll have the chance to qualify for the New York State High School Team. Congratulations to Our Swim Team on an Outstanding Performance at the Suffolk County Championship! 🏊‍♀️

Our athletes made a big splash this weekend with incredible swims and personal bests:

The 200 Medley Relay took 10th Place, improving the team’s overall time by three seconds! Featuring Penelope Madocks (best time in the 50 backstroke), Keira Singer (breaststroke), and an amazing 50 fly from Emma Kay. Keira Singer was top 20 in the 50 Freestyle finishing 19th. In the 100 Butterfly, both athletes dropped time and placed in the top 20 of the county. Emma Kay placed 19th and Keira Singer took 13th.

For the 200 Freestyle Relay the girls had an impressive time drop and 9th Place finish with Penelope Madocks, Keira Singer, and Emma Kay.

👏 Congratulations to all our swimmers for their consistency, teamwork, and record-breaking efforts throughout the season! We are so proud of you! We wish the best for our graduating seniors Emma and Keira.💙💛

The boys cross country team completed its season yesterday at the State Qualifier meet held at Sunken Meadow Park. Six of West Islip's 7 runners ran all time fastest runs of their careers at West Islip including Chase Miller, Landon Mancini, Tom Sansone, Aidan Kilkelly, Braden Felix and Jackson Hunter. Chase Miller was the undefeated League Champion, number 2 in the Division, 1st team All County and just missed making the State team. Landon Mancini was All League and All Division as well. Congratulations to the entire team for an enjoyable and successful season.

The Boys Volleyball team defeated Smithtown West last night in the Division 2 Semi-Finals by the score of three sets to 0. The Lions were led by Captain Zach Thomas and Junior Setter Jacob Halpern. Anthony Posanti came up with some big blocks down the stretch. The Lions will play at Eastport South-Manor in the county final next Thursday night at 7 PM. Tickets can be bought online on gofan.com or on the gofan app. Come cheer on your Lions as they try and win the first county championship in school history!

The West Islip Varsity Gymnastics team hosted their last home competition against North Babylon on Wednesday, November 5th. West Islip won, scoring a 166.2 to 152. On vaulting Juliet LeClaire came in 3rd place with an 8.05, and Emily Ball clenched 1st place with a 8.85. On bars, Juliet LeClaire came in 1st place overall scoring an 8.25. On balance beam, Lena Okurowski tied for 3rd place scoring an 8.35, Ava Bomberger came in 2nd with an 8.55, followed by Juliet LeClaire in first place with an 8.7. On the floor exercise, Emily Ball came in 1st place with a 9.25! Incredible job this season ladies! Let’s bring the same energy into the off season! The next competition, "Invitationals” will be held this Saturday afternoon at Kings Park, where Suffolk County Gymnastics will be fundraising for The Wounded Warrior Project in support of wounded veterans. The West Islip Varsity Gymnastics team hosted a competition against Ward Mellville on Monday October 27th. West Islip claimed another victory, scoring 165.95 to 150 . On vaulting, Emily Gavers scored an 8.25 for second place and Emily Ball scored an 8.5 taking first overall. On bars, Emily Gavers took first place with an 8.55 for her highest score of the season, followed by Emily Ball with an 8.35 for 2nd place and Kayla Scandura with an 8.25 for 3rd. On balance beam, Ava Bomberger came in 2nd overall scoring an 8.675. On floor exercise, Emily Ball scored a 9.1 to tie for first place with her teammate Kristen Messina! Great work ladies! The next and last home competition is next Wednesday, November 5th against North Babylon in the boys upper gym. Come support WIVG!

The Boys Cross Country Team competed at the Divisional Race at Sunken Meadow yesterday. The team was led by Chase Miller who lowered his time to 17:06 on the Cardiac Hill course and earned All Division honors. The rest of the West Islip squad ran personal bests including Landon Mancini, Bruno Basile, Tom Sansone, Braden Felix, Aidan Kilkelly and Jackson Hunter. The team has earned a trip to the State Qualifier next week.

The Varsity Girls Volleyball team defeated West Babylon yesterday winning three games to one and clinching a spot in the playoffs. Emma Graziano led the team with 13 kills and 4 aces. Penny Knoop added 8 kills and 2 blocks. Lily Loveland led the team with 17 digs.

Yesterday, the boys varsity soccer team defeated Smithtown West 1-0. With the score tied at zero, Nilson Nunez tallied the winning goal with 3:15 left in regulation off the rebound of a shot taken by Joe Ismail. Michael Hazelton made a big save late in the second half on a breakaway and recorded his fourth shutout of the season. The boys last regular season game is this coming Monday, when they play Huntington in a pivotal matchup for seeding in the playoffs. Kickoff time is 3:30 pm on Barberry. Come out and support the boys!

The Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team made waves and crushed Central Islip with an electrifying score of 96–77!

From the opening dive, our athletes DOMINATED the lanes — taking 1st and 2nd in the 200-yard Medley Relay, setting the tone for an unstoppable meet.

🔥 Penelope Madocks was on fire, dropping four seconds in the 200 IM to claim 2nd — and then doing it again in the 100 Freestyle to snag 1st place!

🔥 Keira Singer was a powerhouse, taking 1st in both the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke!

🔥 Emma Kay soared to victory in the 100 Butterfly, hitting a County Qualifier time, and followed it up with another win in the 100 Backstroke!

This team is fierce, fast, and fearless. Catch them at the Senior meet on Wednesday at Brentwood! 🏆💪

Bayview School PTA looking for student volunteers to help at their Trunk or Treat

event Saturday, 10/18 from 4-7 p.m. They need help with set up and would either be assigned to a station or walk around replenishing candy. They also would need help with clean up. Please contact Bayview PTA for details.
