Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

WIU CPE Course Proposal and Review Process

The following process was recently updated (August 2021) by PDE. Any courses that are new to the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit CPE Catalog will need to follow this process (even if the course is approved through another IU).



1) Submit the WIU 7 CPE Course Application Request Form. Be sure to email your course syllabus to Jennie Moore at jmoore@wiu7.org . Upon submission of Course Syllabus, you should receive a response from the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit staff within 3-5 business days.

2) Once the WIU staff reviews and accepts your request, you will receive further instructions on how to continue the process with the PDE CPE Course Application Approval Team.

3) PDE copies WIU on email back to instructor with application to complete. The instructor has 30 days to complete application and submit back to PDE.

4) The instructor emails application back to PDE for approval. PDE will respond within 30 days with an approval or edits. The instructor has 30 days to submit changes in the applications based on the feedback.

5) PDE will email the instructor with approval. IU will be copied on this email. PERMS # will be included.

6) WIU will enter course into PERMS (unless the course is submitted as a state-wide course. - PDE will enter those into PERMS directly.

7) Course is approved for a 3 year period. (Any courses approved prior to 8/15 are grandfathered in and do not have a 3 year expiration date.

8) At the conclusion of 3 years, the course will need to be renewed or designated to be Inactive.
