Our aim is to provide an eco-friendly way of reducing food by redistributing unwanted/unused food items to those in need.
WPA will house a food pantry which can be used by any member of the Witton Park Academy community.
We encourage all parents/carers to check if their child is entitled to free school meals (FSM). Being registered for free school meals benefits the student and the school. It is up to parents/carers to apply for free school meals on behalf of their child.
It is very important that we know who is entitled to free school meals; not only so that we can provide your child with a lunch every day, free of charge, but also because the school will receive additional funding; which we use to support your child’s education and ensure that they reach their full potential. The only way to find out if we should give your child free school meals is to check your eligibility online by applying for FSMs via the below link:

Did you know...?
The UK throws away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in a single year – even though 8.4 million people in the UK are in food poverty
Wasted household food alone is responsible for 21 million tonnes of CO2e* – and even if you only count the edible food wasted, it comes to a total of 14 million tonnes.
If food waste was a country it would be the 3rd biggest emitter of greenhouse gases
60%- 70% of food waste comes from the home
Households alone got rid of edible food worth £13.8 billion.
If you split that between all of the UK’s 27.8 million households, each home would save, on average, £496 per year.
