Bexhill Academy
Bexhill Academy
Week beginning to 20th September
We have had another busy week with Teddy Bear Picnics, coffee morning and topic launch events. We have added a new feature to the bottom of this newsletter which allows you to see the previous weeks newsletter.
Please can I remind all parents that our school policy is no ear rings are allowed to be worn in school and that full uniform needs to be worn at all times. This includes PE kits and leggings - these can only be worn on PE days. I totally understand that uniforms have been an issue and in many cases you don't have one are doing your best to comply. However many children do have uniforms and are choosing to wear their PE kits into school on the days they shouldn't be.
School Meals chance of winning £100 Argos Voucher
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WIN £100 ARGOS VOUCHERS TO START YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING?
WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR CHILD TO BENEFIT FROM FREE SCHOOL MEALS*?
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL SIMPLY BY FILLING IN A FORM?
YOU MUST APPLY BY 1st OCTOBER 2021!
In order to ensure that all of our children access their full entitlements and do not miss out on any government funded supermarket vouchers during future school holidays, we are encouraging ALL of our parents to complete a free school meals application. It costs you nothing to apply and you might be better off. The only way you will find out whether you qualify is by completing the form online.
What’s in it for me?
Quite simply, if you meet the eligibility criteria, your child might qualify for free school meals*. Also, if the government continues to fund free school meals during the holidays, you will get supermarket vouchers emailed directly to help with food costs.
As if this wasn’t enough, we are offering ALL children the opportunity to take part in a draw to win a £100 Argos voucher and there are two up for grabs! You have nothing to lose.
What’s in it for the school?
You might have heard about something called the ‘Pupil Premium’ that the government introduced some time ago. What this means is that, for every child who is eligible for free school meals, the academy will also receive a sum of money that is then used to make the best possible educational provision for all children. We don’t just receive the money once – we will continue to get this for next few years, so you can see that it is in our interests too. If our parents don’t apply for their entitlements the school will lose thousands of pounds.
I have already completed an application. Can I submit another?
Yes. We want all of our parents to complete the application form irrespective of whether they have done so in the past.
If you have are already eligible and your child gets free school meal, you will automatically be entered into the draw.
My child doesn’t want school meals. Can I still fill in the form?
Yes, absolutely. Even if you continue to send in a packed lunch, we will still receive the funding. (Although school meals in WISE Academies are fantastic quality, so why not get your child to try one if he/she hasn’t already). If you are eligible to receive free meals it doesn’t mean that you have to take them. However, the school will still benefit from the Pupil Premium.
Infants [Reception, Year 1 and Y2] get the meals free anyway. Why should I fill in the form?
It is true that all infant children receive universal free school meals. We still need you to complete the form though because it will still benefit the school through additional funding if you do meet the eligibility criteria…. And by returning the application your child will still have the opportunity to get the Argos voucher!
OK. I have decided that I would like to take part. What action do I need to take?
It’s easy. Simply fill in the free meals application form attached in this link. [https://www.togetherforchildren.org.uk/parents-carers/free-school-meals]
This will take you to the Local Authority application section. You need to complete the form by Friday 1st October 2021. We will then use our school access to see which parents have applied between 01.09.21 and 01.10.21 and all names will be put in a draw for the vouchers. If you have already applied this term, you do not need to apply again.
We will notify the lucky parent/guardian in the last week of this half term. We will also put a notice on our usual school communications to announce the outcome.
Your reply will enable us to claim the correct level of funding and help us in many ways.
Attendance
We are aiming on a weekly basis to get our 96% This week our attendance figure is 95%! Slightly higher than last week!
All children must be in school, they have had so much time off they really need an excellent attendance to help them to catch up.
If they are really unable to come in as they are so poorly, then please let the office know
(0191 7070120), if you do not contact the school we will need to do a home visit.
Breakfast and After school Clubs
Breakfast club is up and running for all our pupils. This runs at 8:15 every morning. You don't need to book it. Children enter at the little gate, just down from the main gate. After school club links have been sent and should all have been paid for by the end of this week. Football club is full and there is a waiting list in operation.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! It was lovely to see so many parents back in school again today.
We have Receptions events next week but so far we have raised
£500 or Macmillan Cancer. This charity means a lot to us as a school as I'm sure it does you.
THANK YOU
We are opening the doors to Bexhill for our Y2 children’s family members on Monday 27th September from 2:30 - 3:00 to invite you to join your child in a celebration of their reading.
As you know, your children love nothing more than to impress you with their skills and knowledge, so we would like to give them the opportunity to show off!!
We will also be using the event to help you develop your confidence in supporting your child’s reading at home. We will be delivering training to show you how to help your child with their RWI sounds at home and providing you with materials you can use to support them.
It has been a very difficult few years for your child in school due to Covid Restrictions and we are hoping that this event will help both you and them to build their confidence in reading and prepare them for their National Phonic Screening Assessment in December.
We hope to see you there.
Please could you message Mrs Dimmick via dojo to let her know if you can attend :)
Please look at our leaflet for next weeks events. You should have a message to let you know which date you need to come.
This week our focus was on Nelson Mandela and how he impacted on many lives. Our key focus was resilience and equality
Our Fundamental British Values- Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Respect and Tolerance
Our Bexhill Values - respectful, extraordinary
A huge WELL DONE to one of our Year 3 pupils, Joseph, who is a rising golfing superstar. He takes part in regular competitions but last weekend he was the overall winner in the 'Wee Wonders' golf championship. He is only 7 years old and was in a category with children up to 12 years of age. He is awaiting his trophy but we wanted to say a BIG well done Joseph!
Every day we award pupils for good behaviour with our classDoJo. You can see at home how many dojos they have achieved too. Our children are all in family groups:
Darling (based on the fabulous Grace Darling)
Hawking (based on the inspiring Stephen Hawking)
Mandela (based on determined Nelson Mandela)
Austen (based on the focussed Jane Austin)
Children save their dojos and spend them at the end of the term for treats.
Every week they compete for points, at the end of the term the highest family group wins a prize. This week the winners are Darling. Well done Team Mandela!
Our Y6 children are currently working on house captains and are writing their speeches at home!
