Medication Guidelines

MEDICATION GIVEN AT SCHOOL / MEDICAMENTOS DADOS EN LA ESCUELA

Parents and doctors are encouraged to schedule all necessary medications for administration during non-school hours. Medication given once a day, twice day and even three times a day is strongly encouraged to be given at home. Medications given four times or more a day may be given at school just to follow these guidelines. If we need to give your child medication at school, please bring the medication to the nurse's office. Medications should not be transported by the students on the bus. You might ask your pharmacist to divide the medication into two containers to prevent you from having to drop off and pick up medication everyday. Every medication requires written consent from the parent/guardian in order for the nurse to administer it during school hours. Prescription medication must be properly labeled with the student's name, medication, dosage, and time. Non-prescription medication must be in the original container (no bags or envelopes). Your instructions must agree with the instructions on the bottle. Over the counter medications will not be given for longer than 2-3 days without a doctor's order.

It's recommended students who need to use an inhaler during school hours to have a Spacer. This will help in decreasing the inhalation of foreign particles in the air and help the child intake more of the medication. By law, licensed nurses are allowed and expected to refuse to give any medication that in their nursing opinion is not in the best interest of the student. All medication must be from the United States.

Se anima a los padres y médicos a programar todos los medicamentos necesarios para su administración fuera del horario escolar. Se recomienda encarecidamente que se administre en casa la medicación administrada una vez al día, dos veces al día e incluso tres veces al día. Los medicamentos administrados cuatro veces o más al día se pueden administrar en la escuela; solo siga estas pautas. Si necesitamos darle un medicamento a su hijo en la escuela, por favor traiga el medicamento a la oficina de la enfermera. Los estudiantes no deben transportar medicamentos en el autobús. Puede pedirle a su farmacéutico que divida el medicamento en dos envases para evitar que tenga que dejar y recoger el medicamento todos los días. Los medicamentos de venta libre no se administrarán por más de 2 a 3 días sin una orden médica.

Se recomienda que los estudiantes que necesitan usar un inhalador durante el horario escolar tengan un espaciador. Esto ayudará a disminuir la inhalación de partículas extrañas en el aire y ayudará al niño a ingerir más medicamento. Por ley, se permite y se espera que las enfermeras con licencia se nieguen a administrar cualquier medicamento que, en su opinión de enfermería, no sea lo mejor para el estudiante. Todos los medicamentos deben ser de Estados Unidos.
