Janelle Tanguma

I, Janelle Tanguma born September 30, 2001, am now a senior at Weslaco East High school awaiting college acceptances, being bit by the senioritis bug, and making memories that will hopefully last a lifetime.

How did I get where I am today? I was born in Weslaco, Texas, five minutes after my twin sister. Now I have four siblings. Being from a small town didn’t stop me from making big memories. In my 18 years of life I moved around so much that I have lived in 11 different houses that I can remember. All those different houses means all those different experiences. Some of my earliest memories included sports. I wasn’t always devoted to basketball; I spent four years in karate and eventually stopped one belt away from becoming a black belt.

Academics didn’t become an important part of my life until the second grade. Before then, I was not exceptional at school, if anything I was subpar. In the second grade I fell in love with writing, this would eventually lead me to pursue a career as a writer. I knew that if I wanted to achieve this goal I would need to get the best grades possible. My best year, academically, was in the seventh grade when I was salutatorian of my class. However, once I got to high school I let basketball and social life take priority which is something I will always regret. I will continue to try my best to succeed.
