Rich Crawford joining Oregon Occupational Medicine
Congratulations to Rich Crawford (PGY3), who will be joining Oregon Occupational Medicine, a small group practice serving the Portland metro area. His initial role will be primarily clinical with planned advancement over the next three years to medical director. The practice is expanding to a third site and is looking to bolster its workplace surveillance programs as well as develop additional services for employers and their workers.
Rich is drawn to this opportunity to leverage his PMR training to meet these needs and shape the practice, particularly in the areas of quality improvement and addiction services. Rich grew up in the Pacific Northwest and engaged in community health work in Portland for two years prior to medical school.
“I am tremendously pleased with my PMR training at UW-Madison and I hope to continue to cultivate the many relationships formed in the program anchored by friendship and our shared commitment to public health and preventive medicine.”
Dr. Parvathy Pillai steps down as Associate Program Director
We would like to officially announce that Dr. Parvathy Pillai is stepping down from her role as Associate Program Director of the Preventive Medicine Residency. After having triplets in September and taking an extended maternity leave to care for her five children, Parvathy has decided to reduce her effort and focus on medical student education where she will continue as the Public Health Thread Director of the Forward Curriculum, Faculty Director of the Path of Distinction in Public Health and teach in the MPH program.
Parvathy started as the Associate Program Director of the Preventive Medicine Residency in 2013 just prior to the first cohort of the program. She was instrumental in the initial accreditation and subsequent 10 year accreditation from ACGME. She was also an integral part of writing and securing our grants from the Wisconsin Partnership Program and the American Cancer Society. She has been a valued part of our small program, to say the least and we are grateful that she will stay on as a faculty member of the residency.
To recognize her immense contributions, Parvathy will receive this year’s Preventive Medicine Residency Distinguished Service Award. She will be presented the award at this year’s virtual graduation ceremony on June 23rd.
