Sabrina Murphy is published in MMWR
Sabrina Murphy (PGY3) and team were published in MMWR early in April! Sabrina participated in a CDC outbreak investigation for COVID-19 at a state prison as part of her work on the COVID-19 response. She worked with WI DHS and the Community Resilience & Response Task Force (CRRTF) to provide support and technical assistance to vulnerable populations who are at increased risk for disproportionate harm by the pandemic focusing her efforts on supporting DOC and state prisons, law enforcement and local jails, and long term care facilities.
Rapid Spread of SARS-CoV-2 in a State Prison After Introduction by Newly Transferred Incarcerated Persons — Wisconsin, August 14–October 22, 2020 examines how insufficient quarantine after intake can lead to rapid, SARS-CoV-2 transmission, even after early detection of initial cases. Understanding and addressing the challenges faced by correctional facilities to implement medical isolation and quarantine can help reduce and prevent outbreaks.
Alumni Update: Karina Atwell, MD, MPH (PMR ‘16)
“I am starting on my 5th year as faculty with the UW Madison Family Medicine Residency Program. Time flies! I continue to explore more teaching roles within the medical school curriculum, most recently as a Quality Improvement Coach for medical student teams completing their primary care clinical rotations and associated QI projects, and facilitating PaCE (Patient Centered Education) case-based learning groups. My Community Health Curriculum team is collaborating with a doctoral candidate student from the School of Education on a large curriculum evaluation of our residency Community and Population Health Curriculum, aiming to blaze new trails in approaches on how we can best evaluate the academic-community partner environment for both faculty and learner collaborations. With COVID-19 coloring our daily lives, the family medicine faculty have been tapped to fill new roles and I have put on my hospitalist hat on a newly added hospitalist service at UW!”
