Can I partner/Co-teach with another faculty for a preceptor small group?
Yes- we encourage faculty who have not previously precepted with the AC course to partner with more senior facilitators. You can also add a note to your survey response when signing up for AC precepting to ask to be paired with another faculty.
Will there be an informational session or faculty materials before block begins?
Small Group Preceptors have access to an informational video, preceptor guide, weekly case guides, and a facilitator Canvas course, all of which can be consulted before the block begins
Where is the room I will be teaching in located?
Small Group Preceptors normally teach in the G5 wing of the hospital on the 1st floor, in either G5/114 or G5/122. For facilitators teaching specialty sessions, these occur typically in HSLC.
How many students will I work with?
Preceptors typically work with groups of between 4-10 students, depending on preceptor availability in a block.
I signed up but am no longer available or sick, who should I contact/how do I cancel?
Please contact Joe Orman (jorman@medicine.wisc.edu) as soon as possible. He will work with you and the department to find a substitute.
I might be a little late coming from clinic/meeting, who should I contact?
Please contact Joe Orman (jorman@medicine.wisc.edu) as soon as possible, and he will communicate with your students.
I am interested but do not know my schedule yet, what should I do?
In the Acute Care Small Group Teaching Interest Survey, select the option “I am interested in working with the AC Small Groups, but do not have my schedule.” Joe Orman (jorman@medicine.wisc.edu) will follow up with you directly.
I might need to leave early, is that ok, what arrangements need to occur?
We encourage all facilitators to stay the full length of their teaching session. However, if you need to leave early, you should reach out to Joe Orman (jorman@medicine.wisc.edu) as far in advance as possible so that a substitute for either the full or part of the session can be recruited.
AC Small Group Preceptors are required to grade 2 written assignments 1 clinical assessment for each of the students in their small group. Clinical assessments are completed via Acuity One45 and assignments are graded via Canvas. Rubrics for assignments and instructions on how to complete clinical assessments and submit Canvas grades are provided. All assignments and assessments are due at the end of each 12-week Block.
Who should I contact with any further questions?
Please reach out to Joe Orman, Healthcare Education Coordinator for the Medicine AC (jorman@medicine.wisc.edu) with any questions.
