App/Software/Hardware
iOS, Android and Web-based apps
Developed by GoodRx, a private company focused on helping Americans find affordable and convenient medications
Platform(s) - iOS, Android, Web
Cost - Free
How can I use this in my teaching?
The GoodRx app reports prices for prescription medications at local pharmacies (does not include insurance-negotiated prices), which can be cheaper than insurance co-pay
Sometimes has coupons for certain meds at certain pharmacies (cannot combine with insurance/Medicaid)
Includes a pill identifier
There is also a physician app called GoodRx Pro which covers the same information, but also allows you to order savings cards to give out in clinic or on the wards
Good for helping with cost of healthcare for uninsured/underinsured patients, and mitigating resource-related medication non-compliance
Patients can download it themselves
How do I use it?
Install the app on your phone:
Go to your phone’s app store [App Store for iPhone, Google Play for Android] and search for and download the app.
Not an iOS/Android user? You can also create a “favorite” in your mobile web browser directing you to the GoodRx website which has the same functionality.
Searching for a specific medication:
From the “Home” tab, click “Search for a drug or condition” across the top, and type in a medication name
You can search for generic/brand, form, dosage, and quantity
Includes vaccines (does not cover admin fee)
The app will ask to use your current location – you have to give the app permission to do so. Alternately, you can just enter a city or zip code
Any coupons or discounts available are visible in the app (see image), and you can save them to the app, or share them via text or email.
