For those references you’d like right at your fingertips but aren’t available in app form, you can save a shortcut to the website on the home screen of your Android mobile device! This has come in handy for me - I experienced some app jealousy this summer when I learned that 2018 Red Book was available online and on iTunes before it was available for Android (though it is NOW available in an Android app as well – download it from the Google Play store here).
On your Android phone or mobile device, navigate to the website for which you want to save a shortcut. Search for “red book online” in Chrome or using the Google search bar on your home screen.
Once on the page you’d like to save, click on the menu options (three vertical dots) in the upper right corner of your screen and select “Add to Home screen”
A pop-up will appear to show you the shortcut’s icon and name. Click “Add”.
Optional: Edit the name that will show with the icon on your home screen
Select “Add automatically” or touch & hold the icon to manually place the shortcut on your home screen. (Even if you chose “Add automatically”, you can move it once it is placed by touching, holding, then dragging to the position of your choice.)
Ta-da! You now have a shortcut to a website on your home screen with all of your other most used apps!
No longer need it? To remove the shortcut: touch, hold, and drag to the text that read “X Remove” at the top of your screen.
