WELCOME BACK!!

I am so excited to meet and see all of you soon! This website may not be regularly updated, but there will be a weekly newsletter posted in the "Newsletter" folder at the bottom of the page. Please check that for weekly updates. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please email me at kiki.archer@windsorcharteracademy.org.

10/26/18 Original Works Fundraiser:

It's not too late! We are giving a small extension for turning in your Original Works packets. We will now be accepting packets through Tuesday, October 30th. Please turn packets into the front office, make sure checks are made out to WCA and that the actual artwork is in the packet so that the products can be made for you. We will not be able to accept packets after October 30th. Thank you for all your interest in this fundraiser! We can't wait to see student's artwork come to life:)

10/25/18 HALLOWEEN-Students may come to school dressed in their Halloween costume. Costumes should be free of weapons of any kind and excessive face paint (no blood/gore). Students may not wear a mask to school, but may wear their mask during the parade. The parade starts at 1:30. Please be sure to arrive at least 20 minutes early for check-in. If you have a Fast Pass you will be able to check in at the east door. All other visitors must check-in at the main office. All visitors must have a photo ID and a current background check. Parents will be able to watch the parade from the following locations: gym, northeast grassy area and back yard.

9/12/18 Hopefully you have scrolled to the bottom of the webpage to the folders. I have been updating each week with a newsletter. Here is some more information for you.

Next Monday we will be going to lunch at 11:40 and recess at 12:00 so we are can have a virtual visit from a children's author. This is a one time event.

Here is the schedule for Homecoming next week.

Dress Code:

Student’s appearance has an impact on his/her attitude, behavior and learning. Our board has adopted a dress code policy that promotes personal respect for appearance and professionalism. Our staff will be enforcing the guidelines outlined in the dress code. Students will receive a written warning for being out of dress code for the first time. If a second violation is made, the student will be sent to the health office to call home and will need to change clothes. Please review the dress code policy: Dress Code Policy JICA

The following dress code violations are the most common:

  • Color of Clothes:
    • Shirts- solid navy blue, green, light yellow, white, burgundy, light blue, and grey. Heathered shirts do not meet dress code standards.
    • Sweatshirts - solid navy, white, grey, and green.
    • Bottoms - solid navy or khaki.
    • Leggings and Jeggings - solid navy, green, grey or white, and worn underneath a dress code skirt, dress or tunic.
    • Jumpers, Skirts, Skorts and Dresses - solid navy, khaki, green, or WCA plaid (navy blue and gold).
  • Hair:
    • Hair must be of natural color.
    • Color of accessories should be solid navy blue, green, light yellow, white, light blue, grey, or WCA plaid (navy blue and gold)
    • No mohawks or fauxhawks

8/29/18 Thank you to all the parents that came last night. It was great to see you and share about our wonderful classroom. If you weren't able to make it, please read the handbook posted below and let me know if you have any questions! Information will also be sent home in the Friday Folders:)

COPYCAT Volunteer Needed: Thursday 8-11 am. Please let me know if you are able to fill this spot. FILLED!! Thank you!

Sweaters/Sweatshirts in class-Please send your student with a dress code sweater or sweatshirt every day, it can be cold in our classroom:)

SNACKS: We are having one snack a day at 2:15 p.m. Please remember that items may not have any nuts and follow the snack guidelines in the Parent Handbook. Thanks!

AVID Planners: The purpose of the planners is to help the students learn good homework habits AND teach responsibility by having them be responsible for having them signed each night and return them to school every day in their homework folder. Please help your child with this if you can. Students will get 1 point for their reading grade each day they have it returned and initialed by an adult. I will collect the planners on Friday. This planner is sent home on Friday so that your student can see next week's spelling list as soon as possible if they's like to practice. However, homework on the weekend is optional:)

AR Book Bags: These should be coming home each night and returned every day with your child. They should be reading a book in their AR level. Once they finish a book, they are expected to take an AR test. If they get an 80% or above (passing grade), they will earn a ticket from me. Right now the expectation is for each student to take at least one test a week. AR books can be from my library, the school or public library, or from home. To check the AR level of a book go to ARbookfinder.com.

AR testing time: We have limited time during the day to take tests, so it is important that each student uses their independent time wisely. Each day from 8-8:10 students can take tests, or anytime they are finished with their work and there is enough time to log in and test. There should also be time during WIN class a couple times a week. If your student needs help remembering, please send them with a note for me and I will do my best to get it taken asap.

WIN groups: WIN (What I Need) These grade level groups are flexible and are re-evaluated every 6-8 weeks.

Scholastic activation code is NFCWB or you can search by my name, Kiki Archer, to find my account. Ordering books for your child can help build that love of reading and Scholastic provides books at a very low prices, so it's a win-win:)

Daily homework for 2nd grade is:

  • reading 15 min
  • math facts 5 minutes
  • practice spelling 10 minutes (tests on Thursdays)
