The WRED Future Planning Community Input form sought to provide members of the public a forum to ask questions, voice concerns and tell us all their great ideas. The board was also curious about a specific question about the structure of the school system they would begin envisioning in their future planning work. One vision would work to build the best prek-8th grade learning program for our students (this would allow our high school learners school choice). The other vision would work to build the best preK-12th grade learning program for our students. Below you will find the open comment board responses as well as the results of the preK-8 or preK-12 question. Printable version (click here).

Seems early in the process to propose this dichotomy, as my choice here would depend on many factors. A PreK-12 model would be preferable IF: We can offer education that is rich & highly regarded (ie. comparable to other high-ranking public high schools); we renovate or rebuild the campus in Townshend (cramming students in an aging building without a suitable library or natural light, etc. is a disservice); & we can attract & retain *quality educators*; & we can attract & support the families who consider moving to our area with a high quality education & student experience. If these are not possible/too expensive, I would support HS choice.
Remain the same. Change nothing
I feel enrollment numbers are too low at each school, buildings seem either insufficient, outdated, or inequitable for major change, and change is needed. More information would be needed to determine the plausibility of any new direction regarding the educational opportunities for children and families that reside in these towns and/or are looking to relocate to the area.
Leave the plan as is having school choice
NewBrook and Townshend should stay as is K-5 and PK-5. Jamaica's families should have school choice.
PreK-8th grade model with a tuitioning model rather than school choice
Pre-K through 8th; 9-12
Whatever works best for our children and community
School choice K-12
Local elementary school with school choice (beside public) for 7-12
K-5
Elementary schools in each town with High School choice
Elementary Schools in each town w/ a High School Choice
I would like to keep a pre-K - 5th model, and a 6-12 model. Also, it is not clear to me in the option above includes LGUHS as a high school choice.
School choice to incl. BBA and SMS
Pre k - 12th grade school choice
K-5th grade model as we currently have!
NewBrook K-5 Plan for preK-12, but keep the community elementary schools. Focus you big vision on a 7-12 or 6-12 facility.
Keep Leland and Gray open and allow school choice at 9-12.
Keep things as they are
School choice
2 elementary schools (JVS & NB) and a new Middle/HS campus.
