This has been an incredible week for the Texans. There is much to celebrate as we witness the hard work and dedication of our students, coaches, and sponsors paying off in competitions.
To start, the Girls Soccer team is on a run for the second year in a row and will be playing in a State Semifinal match tomorrow. The UIL Academics team performed exceptionally well at the district meet, positioning us to win the sweepstakes for the district title as Speech and Debate compete today to wrap it up. Texan Golf finished 3rd as a team. The Texan Band achieved sweepstakes at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contest, earning straight 1’s for the eighth consecutive year. Additionally, the WHS Choir also received straight 1’s in the UIL Concert Choir Contest. Finally, the Lone Star Theatre One Act Play advanced yet again to the Area contest and will perform next Tuesday. Congratulations to all our students, coaches, and sponsors on their fantastic achievements this week!
As we move into the sixth six weeks next week, we will begin STAAR testing with English I on Wednesday and English II on Friday.
As you can see, this time of year is very busy. Please do not lose sight of what is most important. Encourage your students to keep up with their grades, communicate with their teachers, and attend tutorials. Lastly, take time to enjoy this period. Don’t let “the busyness” prevent you from appreciating the moments that matter most, as they will go by quickly.
Enjoy the long weekend!!

NOMINATE AN STUDENT HERO
The State Board of Education (SBOE) is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Student Heroes Award, which honors exceptional Texas public school students who demonstrate outstanding volunteer service and acts of kindness.
Each year, one student from each of the 15 SBOE districts is honored for making a real difference in their schools and communities, such as helping local charities, starting their own organizations, leading community projects, or assisting those in need.
To qualify, a student’s service must be voluntary and not tied to curriculum requirements, school service projects, or pre-existing community programs. Any student from prekindergarten through high school can be nominated by teachers, school staff, parents, classmates, or community members.
To nominate a student or learn more about the eligibility and selection process, visit the SBOE Student Heroes Award webpage. Nominations are open until April 24, 2026.
Honorees will be recognized at the June 2026 State Board of Education meeting in Austin, Texas. Each Student Hero will receive a plaque and a medal from their SBOE district member.
