What is Turnitin and why do we use it? Turnitin is a subscription-based originality checking and plagiarism prevention service that checks submitted writing for citation mistakes or inappropriate copying. When a paper is submitted, Turnitin compares it to text in its massive database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc. We utilize Turnitin in order to help students identify mistakes or weaknesses in citations so as to improve their academic writing skills, engage them in the writing process, and provide personalized feedback. Teachers will provide students with instructions that include a class ID number and enrollment password.
