Miller-Driscoll: What does an eLearning day look like?

What will instruction look like?

  • What is going to be taught?

    • Instruction in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and specials will continue

    • Weekly plans for instruction will be shared with parents

    • Plans will be organized by the day

When will it be taught?

How will it be taught?

    • Instruction will be provided through a variety of videos, instructional resources, student activities and supporting materials provided by teachers.

    • Most resources will be available on a Master Grade Level Padlet and Classroom Teacher Padlet

    • Other resources will be provided by individual teachers

How will feedback be provided to students?

    • Feedback will be provided by individual teachers after particular assignments or posts

  • How will students be assessed and graded?

    • Students will be assessed based on the completion of posted assignments

How will attendance be taken?

  • If a student is absent and unable to complete online learning, parents should call the attendance line (762-8678 press option 4) or email (mdattend@wiltonps.org) by 10:45am

  • Absences will then be logged into PowerSchool by our attendance secretary, Rebecca Kuijstermans

How are absences handled?

  • Students who are absent 3 days without a parent phone call to the school will receive a phone call home by the classroom teacher.

How can students get help with assignments (and technology)?

  • If students or parents need assistance with assignments, they should email the classroom teacher or the specialist who provided the assignment.

  • If students or parents are encountering difficulties with technology, they should reach out to their child’s classroom teacher who will then get them the support they need. There are links above that will also direct parents and students to technology help resources.

How (and how much) special education, 504, related services, ELL services, and academic intervention services will be provided?

  • Special education and related services will be provided based on individual IEP’s

    • Services and supports will be based on IEP goals and objectives

    • Special educators and related service providers will develop materials and instruction to address goals and objectives

    • Services will be provided via videos, materials and resources provided through a variety of platforms including email and padlet

  • Supports under 504 will be provided as applicable in an eLearning environment

    • Services under 504 will be based on individual plans

    • Service providers will develop materials and instruction to address needs outlined in the 504 plans

    • Services will be provided via videos, materials and resources provided through a variety of platforms including email and padlet

  • ELL Services

    • ELL supports for students at Miller-Driscoll will be provided by Ellen Murphy

    • Services will be provided via videos, materials and resources provided through a variety of platforms including email and padlet

    • In addition, Mrs. Murphy will collaborate with classroom teachers

  • Intervention Services

    • Intervention services will be based on individual student intervention plans

    • Interventionists will develop materials and instruction to address individual student goals

    • Services will be provided via videos, materials and resources provided through a variety of platforms including email and padlet

eLearning Roles, Responsibilities and Expectations:

ALL teachers, including instructional coaches

    • Weekly Plans organized by the day

    • Instructional videos with accompanying materials and activities

Students

    • Take responsibility for your learning

    • Participate in the learning by completing assigned work and responding to teacher posts

    • Ask your teacher for help if you are confused. Your teacher will help.

    • Be thoughtful and kind in your online communications with your peers and teachers. All online activity should be school appropriate.

Parents

    • Develop a realistic, yet flexible, schedule for completion of school work

    • Create a dedicated school work space

    • Assist with technical issues to ensure online activities can be accessed

    • Support at home learning as much as possible

    • Contact classroom teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, mental health workers, and administrators when you or your child is in need of assistance

    • In the event of illness, report your child’s absence to the school.

How should parents communicate to the school?

  • First to classroom teachers

  • Then to a specific specialist, special education teacher, related service, etc.

  • Then if needed, to admin

How will the school communicate with parents?

  • Classroom teachers will communicate daily with their class. All teachers are available daily from 9-12 to communicate with students and parents.

  • Mrs. Coon will send weekly updates that include the plans for the upcoming week.

  • Administrators are available via email.
