General Music

Goals of General Music

• Explore and respond to music though movement
• Develop basic musicianship skills such as matching pitch when singing, maintaing a steady beat, and performing with rhythmic accuracy
• Perform music expressively
• Create sounds and music to accompany stories and movement
• Improvise and compose short rhythmic and melodic phrases
• Consider, discuss, and share how music connects us to people, places, cultures, and our surroundings
• Infer expressive intent of composers and musicians
• Develop reading fluency (being able to read music from the staff, sing it in solfege, or say the rhythmic pattern while maintaining a steady tempo)
