Letter for KS4(Year 10-11) Students

About myON :

myON is a digital platform which allows students unlimited access to thousands of enhanced digital books. Students can enjoy a wide range of genres and authors as well as informational texts. The platform personalises the reading experience by matching students reading level and interests to help find their next book.

Close-reading tools, including an embedded dictionary, text highlighting and audio also help to develop student engagement with reading.

As well as books, students also have access to age appropriate news articles all year round. These can also be translated into French and Spanish to support the close reading skills of our students.

As myON links to Accelerated Reader all it takes is one click for students to navigate to the Accelerated Reader corresponding quiz (KS3 [Years 7-9] only).

myON will motivate students to become better and more confident readers as well as taking accountability for their reading growth.

How to use myON:

  1. Click this link or enter the web address: https://www.myon.co.uk/

  2. Please select Wilmington Academy (Leigh Academies Trust) from the drop down box

  3. KS3 students (Years 7-9) will use their current Accelerated Reader username and password to access both myON and Accelerated Reader accounts.
As usernames and passwords are case sensitive, please ensure you are using LOWER CASE.

KS4 students will have received their individual username and passwords separately.

  4. The first time you login you can connect the Accelerated Reader and myON accounts by clicking ‘CONNECT NOW’.

National Literacy Trust Resources

  • Engaging literacy resources and activities are now available on Zone In: https://literacytrust.org.uk/zone-in/
(More suitable for year 9 and above.)
Students can access weekly challenges, exclusive celebrity videos, free audiobooks, and more. Brand new activities are added every week, with a wide range of topics from breakdancing to stand-up comedy to CV writing.
The CV writing element is very good for Y11 and Post 16 students as they can send their completed CVs to industry experts for feedback!

  • The online challenge element of Skills' Academy can now be used by families and students together, whether they are taking part in Skills Academy or not. Families can sign up and practise their comprehension and freestyling together. https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/9-12/online-reading-challenges-video-rewards/

  • The National Literacy Trust will soon be launching a student-facing site with activities for teenagers.: https://literacytrust.org.uk/

  • Please do enjoy and share the Family Zone. It’s proving very useful for supporting parents and schools. The free Book of Hopes book edited by Katherine Rundell has been especially popular.
