Monarch Award

About This Award

The Monarch Award is the Illinois K-3 Children’s Choice Award. “The Monarch Award is given annually to an author and/or illustrator of a book voted as their favorite by participating K-3 children in Illinois. The award is sponsored by the Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA)."

The 2019 Monarch Award list of 20 titles has been selected by a committee of librarians and teachers from all over Illinois. Since these titles include fiction and nonfiction, picture books and chapter books, all titles may not be appropriate for all children. However, children are eligible to vote if they read or hear a minimum of five books from the list. We will be sharing titles during library lessons throughout the year. Students may also choose to checkout any of these titles from our McKenzie Library. Voting for our favorite title will take place in February.

All of the Monarch Award Books are also available at the Wilmette Public Library, so please feel free to share these books with your children at home.
