About Ms. Lawniczak

Michelle Lawniczak

Library Information Specialist

Welcome to the online Learning Commons site! I am so happy you're here and even more happy when you visit the Learning Commons. There are so many wonderful stories to explore and activities to experience. Let me tell you a little about myself.

I have a passion for reading and books. I LOVE BOOKS! Some of my fondest school memories include read-aloud with my teachers and I will always remember the story My Side of the Mountain my fourth grade teacher read to us. I remember trips to the public library when I would be so excited to bring home the latest treasures to read. I am so thankful to have this opportunity to share my love of reading with so many inquisitive and inquiring minds. I create lessons and select materials that support our curriculum and foster a deeper understanding of subject matter. Weekly checkout time is a great opportunity for me to meet with students, learn their interests, and help them select books that will inspire their thinking and grow their vocabulary.

This is my first year at McKenzie. Previously I taught sixth grade science in McHenry County for 15 years. Prior to that I taught literature and creative writing for grades 6-8th. I am very excited about the transition to elementary grades and being able to couple my love of reading with opportunities to teach STEM and research skills.

I enjoy traveling, playing strategy games, hiking, dinosaurs, and Star Wars.

My education:

  • BS in Elementary Education and English, Barat College, Lake Forest
  • MS in Library and Information Science, Clarion University, Clarion
  • MS in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
