Lunar New Year
(Asian)
Lunar New Year celebrates the beginning of spring and new year of the lunar calendar. It is widely celebrated in Asian countries such as China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Vietnam. One of the most important celebrations among East and Southeast Asian cultures, the New Year celebration is typically celebrated for multiple days—not just one day as in Western cultures.
Known as the Spring Festival, or Chūnjié, in China (Seollel in Korea, Tet in Vietnam), the new year begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends 15 days later with the first full moon.
