Sora & BookFlix eBooks

This fall the librarians introduced eBooks to D39 students. These books are available to read from home year-round!

BookFlix (PreK-3rd grade)

  • BookFlix is NEW for the district this year! It is an online literacy resource for grades K-3 that pairs fiction video stories with non-fiction eBooks to help early readers develop and practice essential reading skills and introduce them to a world of knowledge and exploration.
  • BookFlix Includes:
    • Comprehension games, activities, and further links to information for each pair of fiction and nonfiction books
    • Stories in Spanish
  • See your librarian for login information

Sora (3rd-8th grade)

  • Sora allows D39 students to access a collection of digital eBooks and audiobooks selected especially for them PLUS those in the Wilmette Public Library's OverDrive collection all from a single login.

School Themed Books

Kindergarten - 4th Grade:

  • All Are Welcome by Alexandra Pinfold O'Neill

This story lets young children know that no matter what, they have a place, they have a space, they are welcome in their school.
  • The Buddy Bench by Patty Brozo

Having seen what being left out is like, children convince their teacher to let them build a buddy bench.

5th - 8th Grade:

  • New Kid by Jerry Craft

Jordan Banks parents enroll him in a prestigious private school known for its academics, where Jordan is one of the few kids of color in his entire grade. Jordan finds himself torn between two worlds and not really fitting into either one. Can Jordan learn to navigate his new school culture while keeping his friends and staying true to himself?

5th - 8th Grade:

  • Maybe He Just Likes You

When boys in her class start giving Mila unwanted attention and making her feel uncomfortable, she does not want to tell her friends or mother until she reaches her breaking point.
  • Bystander

Eric is the new kid in school who becomes friends with a boy named Griffin. Griffin seems cool, confident, and popular, but something isn't right about him. Eric learns he's a liar, a bully, a thief. Eric wants to break away and do the right thing, but in one shocking moment, Eric becomes the bully's next victim.
