Policy on Overdue Library Books
1. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to outline the guidelines and procedures regarding overdue library books at Willis ISD.
2. Borrowing Period Books and materials are checked out for a period of two weeks at a time. Patrons are responsible for returning borrowed items on or before the due date.
3. Overdue Fines Overdue fines are not charged for late return of library materials. However, patrons are expected to return items promptly to ensure equitable access for all library users.
4. Responsibilities of Library Patrons It is the responsibility of library patrons to return borrowed materials by the due date specified at the time of checkout. Failure to return materials on time may result in restrictions on borrowing privileges until materials are returned. Items may be renewed if there are no holds on the material.
eBooks and audiobooks are automically returned at the end of the lending period, and may also be renewed if there are no holds.
5. Notification of Overdue Materials Patrons will receive notifications regarding overdue materials via email, slips delivered to the classroom, or other contact information provided at the time of registration. It is important for patrons to ensure their contact information is accurate and up-to-date.
6. Payment of Replacement Costs If materials are not returned within a reasonable period after the due date, patrons may be responsible for paying the replacement cost of the materials.
7. Refunds Refunds for replacement costs will be provided if materials are returned within 30 calendar days of payment.
8. Campus-Specific Requirements Each campus within Willis ISD may have its own guidelines regarding overdue materials. It is within the discretion of each campus to determine whether fines must be paid in order to attend certain functions or to be exempt from midterms/finals.
