A Message from Mrs Sargent:

Queens Jubilee Celebrations

On Thursday 26th May as part of the Queens Jubilee celebrations, we held a very special day. The children spent the morning learning all about British Values and then enjoyed the afternoon on the field where they were treated to an array of special surprises including a magical unicorn from Liliput Ponies and ice cream from Harrisons Ices. A day of fun and games for all with a multitude of different activities on offer from arts and crafts, music, face painting and much more based on what the children wanted to spend their time doing.

Well done to every one involved-the children had a fabulous time!

Author Visit

On Wednesday, Years 3 and 4 welcomed renowned picture book illustrator and multi-award winner, Martin Impey. Martin read some of his beautifully illustrated books including 'Where the Poppies Now Grow'. The talk shared his love of drawing and the journey of creating picture books, how the illustration develops through small steps. Martin also shared his latest book ‘Where Once We Stood – Stories of the Apollo Astronauts Who Walked on the Moon’ and the children loved reading this along with him. He created some quick sketches on a flip chart of his illustrations for the children to enjoy and even a personalized illustration for a lucky birthday girl in Year 3! The children thoroughly enjoyed his visit and said 'it was fantastic, we hope he comes back again.

This term in gardening club we will still be concentrating on clearing the raised beds. Prior to Easter we have enjoyed planting some spring flowers and begun our wild flower garden here at William Barcroft Junior School.

Look out for more details of a gardening competition we will be having for the 'grow with us' scheme that Grimsby Garden Centre are running.

Swimming Lessons

Year 5 have now completed their swimming lessons-well done all!

Year 6 will complete their swimming sessions during the week commencing 27th June 2022.

Please ensure your son/daughter has with them a swimming costume (not bikini) or swim shorts and a towel. We ask that they do not wear these under their school uniforms please. Your child can bring a swimming hat and goggles if required. We require all hair longer than shoulder length to be tied up please. Please pack your child a spare, waterproof bag for wet items at the end of their session.

Due to health and safety reasons, we ask that your child’s earrings are removed on the morning of swimming before coming to school. We also advise to refrain from getting your child’s ears pierced in the Easter holidays as they will then be unable to join in with swimming lessons for the whole block.

Forward thinking for Year 5 Parents:

In June, the Year 5 pupils will be going on a trip to Cleethorpes beach. They will need to take Wellington boots with them as they will be walking on the marsh areas. Please can parents/carers ensure that their child(ren) have a pair of these if possible.

Safeguarding/Pastoral

Our student Governors have created a 'child-friendly' safeguarding poster to ensure that all of our children at William Barcroft Junior School understand the importance of staying safe and who to talk to if they have any worries. This will be displayed around school.
