Mummification

A mummy is a dead body that has been  wrapped in linen strips. The body was taken to a place called the beautiful house. To make a mummy they washed the dead body.  Piles of  salt were placed on the body. Some mummies were put in beautiful coffins that were decorated in gold. The ancient Egyptians believed that dead people  went to live in another world.   The body is wrapped in linen strips. The body was covered and filled with natron so it could dry out. It could take up to 50 days to dry. The brain is was removed by inserting a hook up the nose. The intestines, stomach, lungs and liver were removed from the body and placed into the canopic jars. The body is washed again to remove any natron.  Extracts from the book of the dead were placed in the wrapping.  The body was wrapped in linen strips and next placed in a coffin. Mummies are still here today.  Anubis is god of embalming and is shown with a jackal's head.
