More than 5000 years ago people we call  ancient Egyptians lived at by the barks of the Nile  in Egypt. The ancient Egyptians  built a rich and powerful  kingdom that stayed for 1000s of years.  Did you know the Nile is flooded every year?  The Egyptians loved it so much!      

Mummification

The body was taken to a place called the beautiful house. To make a mummy , you first had to wash the dead body.  Piles of salt were packed around the body to dry it out. It can take up to 60 days to dry out. The brain is removed by sticking a hook up the nose then grab the hook on to the brain and pull the brain out.  Once the body is cleaned again the body is wrapped in linen strips.

Afterlife

Firstly, the belongings of the dead person are placed into the tomb. Shabti dolls are added to serve them in the afterlife and lots of delicious food is provided for the gods. Before the body is placed in the tomb the priest performs the vital opening of the mouth ceremony. Then your spirit must go though the underworld it is a place with creatures and lakes of fire.
