Fairy Tales
1. Once upon a Time/They lived happily ever after
2. Magical element
3. Antagonist/Protagonist (Bad guy/Good guy)
4. Impossible feats or situations
5. Conflict (struggle between antagonist and protagonist)
6. Resolution (Solving of the conflict or struggle)
Fables
1. Fictional
2. Teaches a lesson
3. Characters are usually animals
4. Animals usually have human characteristics (personification)
Legends
1. Based in history
2. Based on real people or events, but with exaggerated actions by the hero
3. May include supernatural beings
4. May demonstrate human values
5. Can transform over time
6. Usually passed down from person to person orally, through illustrations, or writing
Myths
1. Peoples way of explaining everyday occurances
2. Often include gods, demigods, or other supernatural being sometimes animals or humans
3. Usually set in ancient world
4. Breaks natural law, often a hero or someone on a quest
5. Usually passed down orally and have unknown origins
