Part A - Curriculum Music
Wilden All Saints Primary School holds the teaching of Music in high esteem and champions the equitable teaching of quality music to all children regardless of need.
Wilden All Saints Primary School’s music curriculum has been developed and adapted by our school music lead Mr Olsen and uses the Original Charanga Scheme which draws upon the Model Music Curriculum, alongside teacher created content, to teach the National Curriculum of music ensuring all children achieve. Where music objectives have appropriately linked with the Year groups topic the lessons have been entwined. In cases where the music objectives need stand alone lessons then this is the focus.
Curriculum music lessons are part of our core offer at Wilden and are delivered by trained teaching staff. All staff members work with Mr Olsen (Music lead) to make sure that their music year groups objectives are being covered from our year group curriculum maps. Music CPD is given to staff across the year through Staff Meetings led by Mr Olsen and workshops through Severn Arts.
Curriculum lessons:
• EYFS - 4-6 hours each half term but instruments are used throughout the learning environment to help enrich the EYFS framework.
• KS1/ KS2 – 4- 6 hours each half term. Depending on the Music objective focus some lessons will appropriately link to the current class topic and some will be separate.

We encourage children to enjoy their singing and actively progress their talents and passions. We get all children to participate and actively improve their singing through music lessons, ensembles and performances.
We have a whole school singing collective worship every week run by Mrs Graham.
Whole class teaching facilities children to utilise their voice and learn techniques to improve their musicality.
Singing performances - Harvest, Christmas and Easter KS1 and KS2 musical performances.
Annually a group of children visit and sing Christmas carols to the local residents of a Stourport care home.
Whole class teaching facilities all children to utilise individual instruments (tuned and untuned percussion instruments) and allows children to begin to read music notation progressively from a stave.
Children in Year 4 learn to play the ukulele through specialist teaching from Mr Olsen. These instrumental lessons allow children to begin to read music progressively from a stave in addition to exploring improvisation and more formal composition methods.
Wilden holds having opportunities to explore a passion for music in high esteem, which is why we give children the opportunities to bring instruments in and practice them in allocated spaces.
Mr David Morgan, an external professional music teacher, provides opportunities for children to learn piano and/or guitar. These are run in term time during school hours in a designated reharsal space.
All children at Wilden are given the chance, at least once a term, to perform in concerts, plays and church services hosted by the school. EYFS, KS1 and KS2 perform at Christmas- KS2 at the local church. EYFS, KS1 and KS2 perform for Harvest and for Easter to our parents. KS2 Year 6 end their school year with a musical production to the school and their parents.
As pupils move through the school they have opportunities to experience live performance for example attending theatre performances in London and performances from other schools across the trust.
Wilden All Saints Primary School holds the teaching of Music in high esteem and champions the equitable teaching of quality music to all children regardless of need.
All staff are well trained in adaptive teaching to ensure all children can access the music curriculum and achieve alongside their peers.
Staff use the specialist SEND resources in Charanga to good effect to support and assist all SEND children when needed.
Part B - Extra-curricular Music (Co-curricular)
Outside of the core music curriculum, we offer a range of musical opportunities both inside and outside of lessons, we offer:

Part C - Musical Experiences
To further enhance our children’s exposure to music from around the world and various musical genres and styles, Wilden offers a range of music opportunities. Guitar assemblies alongside collective worships offer another opportunity for the children to learn, share and discuss facts about a range of composers and artists from a range of periods in time and genres from early Renaissance music through to modern pop.
All children at Wilden are given the chance to perform in concerts, plays and church services hosted by the school. EYFS, KS1 and KS2 perform at Christmas- KS2 at the local church. Our vision for music development at Wilden is to continue to develop a music curriculum which empowers all teachers, both specialist and non-specialist to deliver high-quality lessons in which pupils can achieve their potential. In 2024-2025 we will audit our musical resources and invest in strengthening our resources. We will also be exploring further opportunities for our children to experience live performance.
The Department for Education publishes a guide for parents and young people on how they can get involved in music in and out of school, and where they can go to for support beyond the school.
