Now Accepting Volunteers for 2017
Join WIESCO in the summer of 2017 as we return to one of our first program sites in Lithuania.
WIESCO is thrilled to return to Plungė, Lithuania after eight years to provide a two-week program for teens.
It has been a goal to return to Plungė, a city of about 23,000 residents, since our last successful programs there in 2007 and 2009.
Those two programs were very rewarding and well received by the entire community. Many of our experienced volunteers, including several members of the advisory board, have participated in the Plungė program.
Plungė is conveniently located about 50 minutes from the Baltic coast, certain to be a weekend excursion for volunteers in 2017. The town is walkable, full of history, and unique architectural sites like Plungė Manor.
Vilnius (the Lithuanian capital) and Riga (Latvian capital) are about equidistant from Plungė.
WIESCO advisory board members have maintained contact and friendship with the host coordinators in Plungė since our last program in 2009. There is mutual excitement for returning in 2017.
The students are reasonably proficient to very conversant in English and there is no need for our volunteers to know Lithuanian! You will find that your students and host student assistants will be very eager to show you around town and be interpreters.
