Building a World Community
Face to Face, Hand in Hand
Spending a summer immersed in another culture and a place a little off the beaten path sounds like a dream to many. Through WIESCO that dream has become a reality.
Teachers, college students, nurses, lawyers, veterans, and many more make up the volunteer staff of the non-profit teaching organization WIESCO.
WIESCO offers volunteers the extraordinary opportunity to meet and interact with students and their families in Armenia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland through English language and culture programs.
Our programs are one to three weeks in length and are typically geared towards middle and high school students, however we frequently host a program each summer for adult learners.
2017 Summer programs a success!
A note from George Hirsch, WIESCO President
The WIESCO volunteer organization held six programs in four European countries this summer. We had 36 American teachers, nine student assistants, and over 400 students involved in learning about American English and culture.
The American teachers and student assistants came from 11 different states. 40% were returning volunteers and the rest first-time participants.
All programs have been invited by the host coordinators to return next summer.
Planning for 2018 will begin with an advisory board meeting in early November. Preliminary information for summer 2018 programs will be available shortly after and the recruitment process will begin in December.
