Hello, everyone!
As another term reaches its end, it is always useful to reflect on the successes, whilst working hard to ensure that we continue to improve. It has been an extremely rewarding yet incredidly busy term for SEND and the staff have continued to work incredibly hard to meet the needs of SEND children in their care.

The children are motivated by our Aston Lodge Way. We celebrate this every Monday by awarding children with Class Dojo certificates, bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards and the Headteacher's postcard home. The children are also encouraged to share (during this assembly) any out of school achievements that they have had.
Updates
Interventions
At Aston Lodge, we believe that all children should be provided with an appropriate learning and teaching experience, in order to ensure that they achieve the best that they possibly can.
We were delighted that 100% of our year 6 students attended at least one of the additional booster classes (which took place both before and after school). As well as the Year 6 booster classes, we have also had various other interventions running throughout school, including: year 4 multiplication, year 1 and 2 phonics and year 3, 4 and 5 reading, maths and writing.
Children's Mental Health
In order to support the children's mental health, we have also continued to work very closely with the With Me In Mind Team and many children throughout school have now being part of the Flowers 1, 2, 5 intervention - supporting children with anxiety, friendships and self-esteem.
Transition
This year, we have children transititiong at the end of Year 6 to three different schools.
All our SEND children have recieved enhanced transition which they have thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from.
In the rest of the school, all the children have spent two full days with their new class teacher. Parents have also had the opportunity to meet their new class teacher.
SEND review transition meetings have also taken place.
Sport
As part of the school's enrichment entitlement, we ensure that all children are able to build on their cultural capital. In support of this, Aston Lodge took part in the Children's Capital of Culture Baton Relay 2025. This involved 84 schools across Rotherham to celebrate the town being marked as the Children's Capital of Culture 2025.
Our children have also engaged in many competitions, including the highly successful Year 4 Rotherham Skipping Festival, and the Bluebell Wood Colour Run.
All students, regardless of need, are always included in these competitions.
Rotherham United Football Club
We have also had the honour to welcome Rotherham United Football Club to the school. Rotherham FC have been working closely with the older children in school. They have been focsuing on health and nutrition, working collaboratively and also looking at the different career options in sport.
English
This Year we have had some outstanding reading results.
In Year 1, 77% passed their phonics screening check and in year 6, 76% of the children achieved the expected standard and 31% of the children achieved greater depth.
Our SEND children performed particualry well at the end of KS2.
Well done everyone!
Y6 Residentials
This year all year 6 children went on two residentials: Whitby and the Peak District.
It is our aim to ensure that pupils leave Aston Lodge as well-rounded individuals and prepared for the seond stage of their education. What better way to encouage independence than by engaging in 'away from home' quality residentials. What is more, in order to ensure all children are included, the Peak District is fully paid for by the Trust.
Staff Training
As part of staff ongoing CPD, all the staff in school have attended the Demand Avoidance Training led by Aspire.
As well as this, staff have engaged in their own personal training, including SALT, social emotional and mental health and dyslexia training.
Alternative Provision
This year we have continued to work alongside our alternative provision - Magna Lane. We also have students who attend the Woodland View. We are incredibly lucky as a school that our Trust are able to offer us these alternative provisions.
