This backup battery allows the TunnelWatch PC and network switch powered on during power outages. This battery will not keep the tunnel or its devices running, but if the power is restored before the battery is drained (usually 2-3 hours), you won't have to wait for the TunnelWatch computer to start up and reestablish network connections before washing cars.
The TCS2 Backup Battery has the following connections:
1. Battery terminal connections.
a. Red terminal: +12VDC
b. Black terminal: GND
Notes
1. To prevent TCS2 power loss, it is recommended that the TCS2 backup battery be replaced every two years.
1. Turn the TCS2 main power switch off.
2. Turn off the circuit breaker providing power to the TCS2.
3. Remove the strap that is retaining the backup battery.
4. Disconnect the cables from the battery terminals.
5. Remove failed or aging battery from the metal tray.
6. Add replacement battery to the metal tray.
7. Connect battery wires to the battery terminals, ensuring that the red cable connects to the red terminal (+) and black cable connects to the black terminal (-).
8. Replace the strap to hold new battery in place.
1. Battery backup does not work.
a. Note: The battery will provide power to the network switch and panel PC when main incoming 120VAC power is lost. This battery backup power typically lasts for about 2-3 hours. The battery will also keep the panel PC and network switch powered on for 20 seconds after the TCS2 main power switch is turned off.
i. Check to make sure the battery wires are connected to the battery terminals. Warning- Do not switch the polarity of the battery connections. Doing so can cause the battery to leak or explode.
ii. If battery wires are connected, the battery needs to be replaced.
2. Backup battery works fine, but the TCS2 computer screen is reporting a “Backup Battery Failed” message.
a. If the temperature of the battery is above 50°C, the battery charger stops charging the battery, and triggers a battery fault.
i. If the room the TCS2 is installed in is very warm, it is not unusual to see this message. It just means that battery charging was suspended while the temperature is high.
ii. Note: Earlier TCS2 power supply units will report a battery fault when the temperature of the battery is above 40°C.
