Out of the three Grinch movies, the classic, the live-action, and the new animation, the new animation Dr. Suess’s The Grinch is the best one by far. The original is of course a classic and the live-action is quite interesting, but the new animation makes for the best remake and yet still sticks to the classic storyline.
Based on the plot, the new animation not only provides the same classic story of the Grinch stealing Christmas, but also incorporates new characters and jokes that make it not only hilarious but very heartwarming. Additional characters, like the moose and Bicklbaum add more comedy and interactions for the Grinch to experience, seeing his initial standoffishness break as he becomes friends with the characters, providing more heartwarming relationships to be made and had when he finally accepts love.
Not only does it add additional characters, but it provides a backstory for the Grinch, giving insight into what his life was like as a kid, explaining why he is the way he is. The live-action made this addition as well, but it does not have the same effect, as the animation focuses more on his loneliness rather than him being teased, resulting in a bigger effect when he finally is not alone at the end of the movie.
The new animation also gives a little spunk to the classic story, modernizing it with songs and funny interactions. A famous rapper, Tyler, The Creator, was added to this soundtrack, giving it a fun, yet hip-hip vibe to the music, similar to the rest of the track, creating a fun and upbeat atmosphere around the whole movie.
But the new animation still gives the heartwarming story of the Grinch, keeping the storyline the same and invoking the classic nostalgia of Dr. Suess’ classic tale. The animation includes a narrator, just like all the others, but incorporates rhyme just like the classic book, unlike the live-action. This stylistic choice gives it the same feeling of nostalgia and satisfaction as all the sentences flow together perfectly.
With all of these fun additions along with the classic storyline and feeling of nostalgia, Dr Suess’ The Grinch animated movies takes the cake on being the best Grinch Christmas movie, outdoing the others with its modern spunk yet childlike, nostalgic vibe. While some may disagree, the combination of all these factors in the new animation is unbeatable, making it the best spin on Dr. Suess’ classic children’s book.
