Welcome to our 5th Class blog!
Here we will post little insights into what we have been up to throughout the year.
Enjoy!
This year, with the beginning of the implementation of the new Primary Mathematics Curriculum, we are encouraging even more of a playful, collaborative and inclusive learning environment. As you can see in the pictures below, 5th Class are enjoying using our new concrete materials to support their learning.
We have also brought our playful learning environment to our Gaeilge lessons. Playing board games as Gaeilge gives the pupils a chance to practise new vocabulary and phrases in a fun and meaningful way all while building their confidence in speaking the language.
Along came Halloween Dress Up Day and 5th Class joined up with 6th Class for a spooky fashion show in the hall
A cricket coach came in to give us a few pointers. I think he was pleasantly surprised with all of the sporting talent we have in our class!
We had lots of fun in Science mixing materials to form Oobleck!
In the second term we began Spanish lessons every Monday with Sergio, Gymnastics classes with Alex and we all went orienteering in Marlay Park.
WE WON CLASS OF THE MONTH! So we celebrated with a pyjama and movie day!
We joined up with 6th Class for Gaeilge stations
We learned about Volcanoes in Geography, then made them using clay and paint in Art. Finally, we made them explode during Science!
A pollinator came in to teach us all about bees. We learned how many different species of bee there are in Ireland. We also looked at the 'smoker' that is used to calm the bees and passed around a hive box. Then we got to taste some local honey!
We have participated in cycle road-safety training which was a huge hit!
