Jack P. Nix Elementary
My name is Ms. Tina and I am the art teacher at Jack P. Nix Elementary School. I am so glad to be a part of the school community, working with staff and students to create an exciting learning experience.
I grew up with art all around me as my mother and grandmother were both wonderful artists. Being so close to them and being able to make messes with the art supplies they were using surly sparked my love for the arts at a very young age. I can remember attending plays, painting classes, ceramic classes and many art outings. I knew from a very early age that art would be a big part of my life. I was constantly creating, in fact, I would never let my mom throw away anything because I would inevitably make something out of it. To this day, I still can't throw out a paper towel or toilet paper tube!
I attended Piedmont College in Demorest Georgia where I earned my B.S. in Early Childhood Education, M.ED, and Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction. I then added Art Education P-12 through classes at North Georgia College and State University. I started at JPN as a parapro for my first 3 years and then taught Kindergarten for an additional 10 years at Jack P. Nix. I have since been loving teaching art for 14 years.
With each year, life in the art room just gets better. At the elementary level, I strive to align my curriculum with each grade levels' CCGPS units as well as incorporating the GA state art standards. I like to expose the students to a variety of different materials and introduce them to the artworks of artists from all around the world and throughout history. I will meet with each class every week. This year, each art class is started by asking ourselves where art comes from and how we can engage in the creative process.
