In addition to teaching, I served as an Administrative Assistant for a medical peer review organization in Maryland and as an Area Coordinator for United Way of Benton County, Arkansas. I have also worked for newspapers in various roles and in the Data Processing department of a power company. Ask me about Keypunch machines!
I was born in Arkansas to a cotton farmer and a postal clerk. I learned to read when I was about four years old, and I have been an avid reader--and learner--ever since. I have lived in Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, and Maryland.
In addition to teaching Civics in White County schools, I teach French at Georgia Virtual School, entirely online. I am incorporating what I am learning there and in my Online Teaching Endorsement course into my White County classes.
I am passionate about learning. I am always eager to learn something new. When my students show no interest in learning, I take it personally.

I volunteered in the North Georgia area as a referee for local developmental swim meets. I retired from officiating in December 2012.
My husband is a management consultant. My son John teaches computer science at an international school in China, and my daughter Sarah is an attorney.
