Dr Ross McLennan (DrossMac) is a curious and collaborative creative who works across many forms of storytelling: an educator/researcher, sound designer, composer, filmmaker, game designer, musician, songwriter, poet and lyricist. Ross explores the connections between sound, image, and meaning in both creative and academic contexts. His research spans topics such as the relationship between music and visuals, creativity and emotion, songwriting, film and game music, sound design, and transformational learning within the digital and creative industries. He has presented and published work in a wide range of fields, driven by a desire to understand how sound moves us, shapes us, and tells stories that words alone cannot convey. Ross’s professional practice is diverse. He has contributed to projects for Sony Pictures, Discovery, Hoodlum, the Queensland Ballet, QAGOMA, plus all Australian television networks. His creative work encompasses music and sound design for film, television, video games, theatre, opera, and the concert stage, including symphonies and award-winning videopoetry. He has also worked on interactive media, tabletop game design, and augmented reality experiences and is a pioneering advocate for the use of AI tools in human storytelling and filmmaking. Ross holds a Bachelor of Music from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, a Graduate Diploma in Education from QUT, a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD from the University of Queensland. At the heart of all Ross's work is a belief in the transformative power of creativity and a desire to help others find their voice through sound and story.
