So how does it work?
There are five possible tricks titles: Novice Trick Dog (NTD), Intermediate Trick Dog (ITD), Advanced Trick Dog (ATD), Expert Trick Dog (ETD) and Trick Dog Champion (TDCh).
To get started earn your NTD title by performing 15 tricks from the Novice Tricks List.
For more advanced students, why not shoot for a higher title?
Earn your ITD/ATD/ETD title by performing enough tricks from the Intermediate, Advanced or Expert List.
Tricks must conform to the following rules -
All Titles: Physical Manipulation may not be employed to get the dog to do a trick, and tricks must be taught using positive reinforcement methods. You may re-use a trick for a multiple titles. Each title serves as a pre-requisite for the next title (e.g. must earn Novice before applying for Intermediate)
Novice Title: Tricks do not have to be perfect. Treats and toys may be used as a lure, but on no more than 50% of the tricks. Advanced and Expert tricks count as two tricks.
Intermediate Title: Treats/toys may be used as a lure on no more than 25% of tricks. You must earn lower titles before applying for more advanced titles (e.g. you must have novice before intermediate. You must have novice, intermediate and advanced to apply for expert).
Advanced and Expert Titles: Must be done off-leash. A pointed finger may be used, but no treat or toy lures. Handler may give multiple cues, but not badger the dog (ex: “weave weave weave” is OK but not “fetch! go on! get it! go get it! go!”). Handler shall not hover over or crowd the dog.
Recording your video:
Set up your camera such that your dog is in clear view, with sound on. It doesn't have to be perfect! You are welcome to work indoors or outside. Record yourself and your dog performing the required number of tricks for your title. You are welcome to record up to 5 additional tricks to ensure you have enough points to pass.
If possible, please edit your video to remove long gaps between tricks. You are welcome to compile a series of clips taken at different times for your submission.
