I was sitting on the train, on my way home from work. I was on the phone to someone when they told me they've got to put me on hold to quickly take another call. I waited patiently, looking around the carriage, observing what everyone was doing after a long day. Most people were on their phones, one person reading and another staring at someone else in disgust. The train stopped at a station. Another train stopped besides my train. I, of course, looked inside the other train. I am very appreciative of the large windows. I made eye contact with a stranger inside the other train. I gave them a small smile. People shuffled in and out of both our trains, obstructing our view. When all passengers settled, we both made eye contact again. No words could be exchanged. We both smile bigger. We start laughing. The doors on both trains close and the train started to depart. We're both still smiling and laughing as we waved goodbye. I will never see the stranger again. I continued smiling as I'm put off hold and continue the conversation with the other person on the line.Â
