The object of this society shall be the intellectual improvement of its members and to foster the Philomathesian Spirit. We champion active pursuits grounded in student-led debate and discussion.
In 1835, as students engaged in building Wake Forest University brick by brick, the Philomathesian Society was founded. Since then, it has continued to thrive as a central part of both Wake Forest's administrative functions as well as a part of student life.
In 2019, our leadership team embarked upon the task to revive and renew this literary endeavor. The Philomathesian Society was once at the forefront of student-led scholastic ambition in North America, and it will once again develop toward that leadership.
