AWM Piedmont-Triad Conference
Please join us at Wake Forest University on Saturday, March 2nd
Registration will begin January 15th
The AWM Piedmont-Triad conference is a student-led initiative that aims to bring local AWM chapters together to provide networking opportunities for graduate and undergraduates students. This one-day conference will allow students to promote their research, to network among professors and peers, and to enhance their professional and academic skills through informational panels. By participating in this conference, students will contribute to creating a strong sense of community among women in Mathematics. Moreover, by bringing different chapters and communities of students together, we will be able to empower and encourage women in Mathematics. We wish for our attendees to leave feeling supported within the Mathematics community and encouraged to continue to pursue their career in Math.
Meet our keynote speaker
Dr. Lillian Pierce
Dr. Lillian studied mathematics at Princeton, where she graduated as valedictorian, and as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, before earning her doctorate in mathematics at Princeton in 2009. She subsequently was a postdoc at the Institute for Advanced Study, a Marie Curie Fellow at Oxford, and a Bonn Junior Fellow at the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics. She is currently Associate Professor of Mathematics at Duke University. Her research in mathematics centers on questions in number theory and harmonic analysis. As an educator, she aims to convey both the beauty and the practical relevance of mathematics in our lives. Dr. Pierce was recently awarded the AWM-Sadosky Research Prize in Analysis.
In addition, she is working with a wide array of mathematicians and organizations to generate a 21st century mathematics community, which welcomes everyone. We are so honored to welcome Dr. Pierce to Wake Forest, and we hope you will join us!
