Bus route changes for some students will begin on Monday, February 27th.

Parents & Guardians:

The purpose of this message is to notify some of you for the first time and remind others that have been notified already that this coming Monday, February 27th, our transportation department will begin the process of eliminating one of our current bus routes by making a few slight changes to a small number of our current routes throughout next week.

By now, some of you have either received a phone call notifying you of the change and/or a letter was given to your child by his/her current bus driver with the new route number and notice of any time changes. If you did not receive a phone call from our transportation department or a letter from your child's current bus driver, then your child's route will not be impacted on Monday.

Our staff will ensure that the students affected by this change get on the correct bus at dismissal time. After a day or two, we are very confident that our students will make the adjustment.

If you have any questions, please call Rob Roebke, the district's transportation director, at  479-839-3131, extension 5006.

Thank you,

John Karnes, Superintendent

Parents, Guardians, Students, and School Employees:

I am sending you this message to inform you that the West Fork School District will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25th, due to the high accumulating snow amounts that this winter storm is dumping in our area with no end in sight. Tomorrow will be considered a snow day that will be made up on April 14th. Any additional inclement weather days taken after tomorrow will be Alternative Methods of Instruction Days (AMI) and do not have to be made up because the state approved a 10-day AMI waiver application that the district sent in for consideration over the summer.

Students, please be safe and enjoy your snow day tomorrow.

Thank you,

John Karnes, Superintendent

Game Date and Time Changes for Football Games vs. Greenland

Parents, Guardians, Students, & Community:

Because of the severe weather predicted for Friday night, most schools in NWA have started announcing that they are moving their Friday night football games to Thursday night. West Fork and Greenland have agreed to do the same. The senior high football game vs. Greenland at Greenland will now be played on Thursday night beginning at 7:30. The 7th grade & junior high games will still be played on Thursday at West Fork, but the game times will be moved to 3:30 for 7th grade and 4:30 for junior high to accommodate for the senior high game.

We apologize for this late notice and any inconvenience we've caused, but for the safety and welfare of everyone involved, we feel strongly that this is the right decision. We can play with rain falling, but we can't play with severe storms all around us.

Thank you so much for your understanding.

John Karnes, Superintendent

Parents, Guardians, & Tiger Football Fans

The West Fork School District is working on having the ability to make more live-streamed events accessible for our parents and community in the near future. Thank you for your patience.

Back to School Message from Superintendent John Karnes

Parents & Guardians:

I hope your child enjoyed his/her summer and is looking forward to beginning a new school year tomorrow morning. I will assure you that all of us working for the West Fork School District are excited about beginning a new school year and are determined to get off to a great start.

Having said that, tomorrow morning between 7:15 and 8:00, we’ll have approximately 1,000 students and employees arriving on our campus, which means there will be a lot of buses and car traffic, in addition to students walking to school. As you bring your child to school, I am asking you to arrive early, be patient, and be extra observant, because any tiny distraction could result in an accident. At the Elementary School, we have made a small change after you drop off your child at the cafetorium that should greatly increase the safety of our students by limiting vehicle and student interactions at the crosswalk. Additionally, for a lot of parents that also have children to drop off at our middle school and/or high school, this change should shorten their dropoff time by eliminating the third trip through the 4-way stop in the middle of town. If this change doesn’t seem to improve the vehicle congestion at the Elementary School dropoff location after a few days, we will re-evaluate and make any necessary changes.

To help ensure your child’s safety, we ask that your child always exits your vehicle from a passenger side door and goes directly to their assigned location. Each building will have monitors outside at our student dropoff locations to assist as needed. I also want to remind you that it is illegal to talk or text on your cell phone while in a school zone and it is also illegal to pass a stopped school bus when its flashing red lights are on.

In closing, I want you to know that all of us here at the West Fork School District expects to have a safe and productive 22-23 school year, but it will take all of us working together to make this expectation become a reality, and I know we can do it!

If I can ever be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you,

John Karnes, Superintendent
